As such, “copying files to a disk” means just that. You can technically say this is copying files to a disk, but it's uncommon. “Burning” a disk, is a specific term related to burning CDs or DVDs. You're using a laser to write content onto a disk for storage (or movies, or to share with people).
Digital Versatile Disc Recordable
One of the most common and easiest ways is to look at the bottom of the disc. Recordable discs have a green, purple, or color of tint to them, unlike the traditional CD and DVD. When CDs and DVDs are made in the factor the data contained on them is stamped onto the disc and not burned.
As is the case with all optical storage media using phase change technology there is a limit to the number of times the recording layer in a CD-RW disc can be reliably switched between its crystalline and amorphous states. Currently, CD-RW discs can be rewritten approximately 1000 times.
Right click the CDDVD-RW Drive to view the menu options pop up menu. Select Erase this disc and when prompted, click Next to erase the files. When the files are erased, the disc can then be used to store more files.
As long as your CD-R disc hasn't been finalized, you can erase it and reuse it the same way you could a standard CD-RW disc.
You can burn a CD quite a few times as long as you don't finalize it but once you finalize it then you can't burn it again. In order to use Windows Media Player to burn a CD, you need to activate the Burn feature.
The With a CD/DVD player option leaves the CD-R disc open, allowing you to add more files at a later date. Adding files later is the same as other versions of Windows, where you open a folder to view the contents of the CD-R disc, add files, and click Burn to disc.
What type of disc should I use? To create audio CDs that work in most stereo systems, use CD-R discs. CD-RW discs usually work only in computers. To create a CD of MP3 files to play in your computer or an MP3 CD player, use a CD-R disc; some MP3 players can play CD-RW discs as well.
How do I convert a DVD-R to DVD-RW? You can't convert a DVD-R; they're manufactured to only be written to, not erased. You'll have to buy some DVD-RW discs. Once a DVD R is finalized, there is no way to add another film to the open unrecorded space.
Usually, if you want to burn data to a CD or DVD, first you need to format the disk. If there is data on the CD or DVD, you should erase the data already on the disc and then format it for reuse.
Open Windows Media Player and click the Burn button. Click through albums and playlists and drag the songs you want to add to the CD/DVD to the Burn pane. Continue dragging songs to the Burn pane until you have the mix you want. Click Start Burn.
