In April, Sprint announced International Value Roaming, giving U.S. customers the ability to text and go online at 2G speeds for no extra charge in 15 countries, and to make international voice calls from those countries for $0.20 per minute.
Tap Cellular Data Options.Tap Roaming. Voice Roaming must be on for the Data Roaming and International CDMA options to be available. To enable Data Roaming, tap the Data Roaming switch to turn on. Tap the International CDMA switch to turn on or off.
To avoid unwanted charges, your safest bet onboard your cruise ship is to switch to airplane mode, reactivate your wireless feature and log in to the ship's Wi-Fi network. (Note: Switching to airplane mode will turn off wireless until you manually reactivate it.)

Go to sprint pcs.com and find the coverage map for Hawaii. (I tried to paste the link but it was about four lines long). The summary is that it is decent throughout the Kona-Waikoloa area, OK in Hilo, and a little spotty elsewhere.

Steps to Activate International roaming through
- Click the “Settings” Icon in Blue (Right Hand Corner)
- Select “Manage Service”
- Enable "IR" by sliding the button towards the Right and Click on “Submit”
- You will get an option to either “Proceed” further to increase the Credit Limit.

" Is the service good there?" Their service will be as good as whichever networks Sprint has partnered with in Italy. Sprint does not operate towers or network equipment, so you'll be using local providers. In my experience using international roaming, service has always been excellent.
