Update 2 for DOOM Eternal is now live, and features a new BATTLEMODE map Torment, more frequent Empowered Demons, campaign & BATTLEMODE quality-of-life improvements, fixes and more!
Doom Eternal is getting a multi-part story DLC called The Ancient Gods. The Ancient Gods: Part One is the first of at least two campaign DLCs coming to Doom Eternal. Bethesda announced the first part of the DLC at today's QuakeCon 2020 opener.
One big addition in the update is Empowered Demons, a feature that will spawn demons “when a player is killed in the single-player campaign”. These demons will jump from one player's game to another, growing stronger with every player they kill.
If you missed the news in the leadup to the launch of Doom Eternal, the game's getting at least two major pieces of single-player DLC. Both these locations will be part of the first piece of story DLC.
Where Is Invasion Mode In DOOM Eternal? While Battle Mode is immediately available in DOOM Eternal, players might notice that Invasion Mode is nowhere to be found. Bethesda showed off the mode in pre-release coverage, but unfortunately, it won't be added until an update later on.
Battlemode is a game-mode available in Doom Eternal. It is a 2v1 battle experience in which two playable demons face off against one fully loaded Slayer in a best-of-five round-based brawl.
The multiplayer modes for DOOM Eternal are Invasion and Battle. Bethesda's multiplayer mode Invasion has been heavily compared to Dark Souls. This is because it allows your friends to invade your Doom Eternal playthrough as demons.
Unfortunately, those looking to play through the Doom Eternal campaign with a friend will be disappointed to learn that Doom Eternal does not offer any kind of co-op or splitscreen play. The game will, however, launch with the Battlemode multiplayer, which allows two demons to team up against a single Doom Slayer.
“It didn't have any of the components of Doom that people loved from the campaign,” says Stratton. “It didn't have the slayer or demons in a meaningful way. It just kind of fell flat.” Creative director Hugo Martin adds that 2016's multiplayer too often came down to “twitch skills vs twitch skills”.
This 'Hipster Archvile' skin is one of the rewards offered in Doom Eternal's series two, which runs until May 14. It's a free battle pass-style system for unlocking loot, mainly by playing Doom Eternal as you normally would.
Doom Eternal, which releases on March 20, will not have a traditional deathmatch mode, and is instead shipping with its own unique twist on multiplayer: Battlemode.
“DOOM Eternal comes fully integrated with online features rewarding your skills with XP, unlocking awesome cosmetics like player skins, weapon skins, nameplates, podiums and more to personalize your experience in the single-player Campaign, BATTLEMODE and even the main menu.

Doom Eternal is a much faster game than 2016's Doom. It's much faster than any other Doom game for that matter. I've heard some say the game is closer to Quake than Doom in that respect, but it's actually closer to a combination of Quake, Doom, and even more intense FPS titles like Painkiller and Serious Sam.
If you consider yourself someone who has managed to wrap your head around all that going into DOOM Eternal, we recommend starting the game on Ultra-Violence. If this is your first time playing a DOOM game, however, we recommend starting off on Hurt Me Plenty.
