When used with other paints, it can take over. The first time I used Unicorn SPiT, I went for it without dilution with Liquitex Basics acrylic paint in a pour. Because of this, I would definitely recommend diluting your Unicorn SPiT at least a little bit if you decide to use it with acrylic paints.

You can make an already diluted unicorn spit and it works great. 3 parts acrylic craft paint, 2 parts Mop & Glo, and 2 parts water.
Unicorn SPiT dries quickly. You can use the spray bottle of water to spread out the stain and blend colors or lines together. Wait for one color of stain to dry before doing the next – you can use a heat gun or blow dryer to speed things up.
Can UNICORN SPiT be used outdoors? Yes. Make sure to protect your masterpiece first with finishes/coatings that are oil-based. Water-based coatings will alter the look of Unicorn SPiT.
Direct to fabric projects: Mix Unicorn SPiT with 3-7 parts water in a spray bottle or cup and brush it on, drip it on or spray it on. Protecting your finished project: Use a NON-WATERBASED product intended for waterproofing fabric after Unicorn SPiT has completely dried.
So, you want to stain your painted deck but you don't want to sand off the old paint. Revive the deck using a solid stain. Unlike thin, transparent stains that penetrate into the wood, solid stain sits on top of the wood, like paint, to form a uniform coat. Use a paint roller to get the job done like a professional.
Can you apply polyurethane over paint? You don't necessarily need to paint a surface before protecting it with polyurethane, but if you would like a solid color, then painting is the way to go. Polyurethane will adhere to and protect latex and acrylic paint as long as you have prepped the surface properly.
Transparent stain does sink into the wood it just has much more dye or pigment added to it to simple change the color of the wood. It is hard with out seeing if your deck currently has stain or paint. If it is chipping It is most likely paint.
Never attempt to paint an existing wood surface without preparing its surface. Applying a direct coat of paint over the old coating will not work and eventually will tend to peel, especially if it has a glossy finish. Sand gently only to create a grip on the surface to be painted. Use a 280 grit to sand the surface.
Applying Gel Stain Over Paint. Now is the fun part – applying the gel stain over paint! Brush on the gel stain in the same direction as the base coat in long strokes. Your goal at this point is to cover every bit of the top with a good coat of gel stain.
If you are covering a latex paint with a new, oil-based paint, you will want to use a primer. You can use a primer to thoroughly cover the old color, then apply 1 or 2 coats of the new paint. Paint & primer in one paints are a newer option, which could be ideal for your situation and even shorten the project.
Because latex paint is water-based, it is incompatible with oil-based solid stains. To generate a durable finish, you must apply a special primer that will bond to both coatings.
Unlike paint, stain has no binder -- it's all pigment and solvents -- so you have to protect the surface with a clear coat. Polyurethane, acrylic, water-based lacquer and solvent-based lacquer are all appropriate finishes, and most should adhere well, since you've already etched and scuffed the surface.
Spruce up forgettable furnishings or bare walls with the “faux bois” technique, which results in paint that looks just like wood. With two shades of latex paint and a simple acrylic glaze, you can apply paint that looks like wood to all of your favorite home accents.
