NEWARK, NJ -- NJ TRANSIT bus, rail and light rail services will operate on modified schedules leading into the July 4th holiday weekend.
Residential programs operate 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.
Holidays falling on Saturday will be observed on Friday. Holidays falling on Sunday will be observed on Monday.

While most railroads will host events on Memorial Day, May 31st; some railroads have scheduled holiday train rides on one or more days including Friday, May 28th, Saturday May 29th, and Sunday, May 30th.
Is travel on NJ TRANSIT free? Travel on NJ TRANSIT is not free. We are encouraging customers to purchase their tickets on the mobile app or at any Ticket Vending Machine.
Pay Your FareMost local buses require exact change in coins or $1 bills. NJ TRANSIT light rail systems utilize a "proof of payment" fare collection system. An activated ticket, monthly pass, transfer, or continuing trip ticket receipt is considered proof of payment.
NJ TRANSIT bus fares are based on the number of zones traveled between your origin and destination. The fare for a one-zone intrastate trip is $1.50 ($. 70 for seniors/persons with disabilities/children). Additional zone charges may apply for longer trips.
New Jersey Transit Corporation, branded as NJ Transit, and often shortened to NJT, is a state-owned public transportation system that serves the US state of New Jersey, along with portions of New York State and Pennsylvania.
At least six NJ TRANSIT trains stop every hour at the Newark Liberty International Airport Station between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. weekdays. Four trains stop every hour between 9 p.m. and midnight. Trains that stop at the airport are designated with an airplane or "EWR" on departure boards.
NJ TRANSIT says face coverings are no longer required at train platforms and bus stops that are outdoors. That means commuters are free to take off their masks if they're outside. Masks are still required on trains and buses and inside stations.

Eating and drinking is permitted aboard trains, but not aboard buses or light rail vehicles. If you choose to eat or drink aboard the train, please be considerate of your fellow passengers and remember to take all trash with you when you disembark.
NJ TRANSIT buses will operate on either holiday, weekday or Saturday schedules, depending on the route. Bus customers should check the Holiday Service Guide box on their timetables or on NJ TRANSIT's website carefully to determine what service will operate on their route.
During off-peak hours, ridership is lower and train crew sizes are reduced to better align with this lower ridership. If at any time off-peak train capacity reaches 50% and a car is available but closed, crews are required to open the closed car and make it available to our customers.
The service is offered every night except Saturdays, when full River LINE service operates until midnight. The Pennsauken Park & Ride provides 452 free parking spaces and is conveniently located near several major highways, including Route 73, Route 130, the New Jersey Turnpike and I-295.

One continuous trip between the stations on the ticket. One-way tickets are valid until used (no expiration) and are non-refundable.
Both Amtrak and New Jersey Transit Trains stop at Newark Liberty. (PATH, Amtrak and NJ Transit trains stop at Newark Penn.) NJT trains have restrooms. Amtrak does have restrooms but tickets would be more expensive and not all Amtrak NYC-bound trains stop at Newark Liberty.
The 319 bus offers year-round service from Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City to Atlantic City, with limited stops in Jersey City, Newark, and Toms River.

If you're departing from NYC Penn Station or Newark, take NJ TRANSIT or Amtrak to Newark Liberty International Airport Station. It takes about five minutes to get from AirTrain to the train platforms and between seven and 11 minutes to get to your terminal, depending on the terminal.
