The reason your TV turns itself on is because of the HDMI connection to Chromecast - specifically, HDMI-CEC which allows your device to turn on the telly, and your telly to control the device (the pause/play buttons on your TV remote will control your Chromecast).
Reboot your Chromecast device
- Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Chromecast device.
- Open the Google Home app .
- Tap your Chromecast device.
- At the top right corner, tap Settings More settings. Reboot.
Tap the Home app to open it. Tap the name of the room the Chromecast device is in. Tap the Settings icon. Scroll down and move the Let others control your cast media slider to off/gray.
It needs a power sourceYou'll find a USB to microUSB cable and power block in the box, or you can plug it into any USB port that supplies power — like the one you might have on the back of your television. Your Chromecast will need to stay plugged in anytime it's powered on and in use.
The whole time you are watching, your Chromecast will be streaming the content using your Wi-Fi network and this will use your data. Hackers have hijacked thousands of exposed Chromecast streaming devices to warn users of the latest security flaw to affect the device. “We have received reports from users who have had an unauthorized video played on their TVs via a Chromecast device,” a Google spokesperson told TechCrunch.
USB power cable: Provides power to your Chromecast. One end plugs into your Chromecast, and the other end plugs into the power supply (#3). Optionally, a USB port on your TV may be used as a power supply.
Once you've got the Chromecast in-hand—still plugged into the power and TV! —just press the one and only physical button on the side of the unit for roughly eight seconds. The Chromecast's indicator light will blink while you're holding the button—slowly at first, then faster once it gets closer to resetting.
Change the Wi-Fi network of Chromecast or Chromecast Audio
- Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Chromecast device.
- Open the Google Home app .
- Tap your device.
- At the top right corner, tap Settings Wi-Fi Forget this network.
- You'll be taken back to your Home screen.
General troubleshooting
- Reboot the following devices: Wi-Fi router.
- Turn Wi-Fi off and on from the mobile device you're using to set up the Chromecast device.
- If you have a dual band router, try setting up Chromecast on either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands.
- Perform a factory reset. Factory reset your Chromecast.
Make sure the Chromecast device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone and Google Home. On the Home screen, tap Settings > Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi network that is listed next to the blue tick mark is the Wi-Fi network that your phone is connected to. To change the Wi-Fi network, tap a network from the list.
Set up Chromecast or Chromecast Ultra
- Plug in Chromecast.
- Install the Google Home app.
- Make sure to connect your mobile device or tablet to the same Wi-Fi network that you intend to use to set up your Chromecast device.
- Open the Google Home .
- Follow the steps.
- Set up is successful.
Right below the microUSB port, there is a small black button. While the Chromecast is hooked up to the TV, press and hold the button for 25 seconds. When the light next to it begins blinking, you can let go. After a minute or two, the device will be reset, and you can try the initial setup process again.
Launch the Google Home app, then locate and tap the Chromecast you want to update to get a device overview. Tap the gear icon to open device settings. Scroll to the bottom of the device settings page to see the Chromecast firmware details and IP address.

Chromecast not working?Here's how to fix it!
- Restart your Chromecast device.
- Check your Wi-Fi.
- Reboot your computer or smartphone.
- Update your Chrome browser.
- Perform a factory reset on your Chromecast.
- Chromecast blacking out or turning off.
Reboot your Wi-Fi router – unplug it from the mains, wait for one minute and plug it back in. Disconnect the Chromecast by removing the power cable. Then and reconnect by plugging the cable back in. Finally, if your router has 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands make sure your devices connect to the 2.4GHz band.
1 Network Status Check
- Launch Google Home.
- Select Devices in the top-right corner.
- Select the 3-dot menu for the Chromecast itself.
- Select Settings.
- Near the top, you'll see the name of your Chromecast, and just below you'll see which Wi-Fi network it's connected to.
Make sure that your device and the TV are connected to the same home network. Make sure the Chromecast built-in or Google Cast Receiver app is not disabled in Android TV™. Press the HOME button on the remote control. Select Apps — See all apps — Show system apps — Chromecast built-in or Google Cast Receiver — Enable.
