Fitbit users can now check and share their heart and blood flow data with their doctor thanks to a new partnership with a heart monitoring app. Belgium based FibriCheck allows users to monitor heart rhythm abnormalities including atrial fibrillation – a common condition that causes an irregular heart rate.
Those who do have atrial fibrillation symptoms may experience signs and symptoms such as:
- Palpitations, which are sensations of a racing, uncomfortable, irregular heartbeat or a flip-flopping in your chest.
- Weakness.
- Reduced ability to exercise.
- Fatigue.
- Lightheadedness.
- Dizziness.
- Shortness of breath.
- Chest pain.
Fitbit is about to launch its first ever large-scale virtual health study. The Fitbit Heart Study will monitor the heartbeats of hundreds of thousands of users, in a bid to detect atrial fibrillation (AFib), more commonly known as irregular heart rhythm.
The new tracking feature called Sleep Score beta (SpO2) detects sleep disturbances that could indicate health issues like allergies, asthma, or sleep apnea. The new Fitbit Charge 3 is part of Fitbit's bigger goal of developing FDA-regulated software for sleep and heart conditions.
The Fitbit One may be used to measure step count in individuals with stroke, but conventional, research-based accelerometers may be more accurate in capturing higher intensity activity.
Your doctor may recommend an electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG), an in-office test that measures electrical activity in the heart, or a Holter monitor, a take-home EKG you wear for up to two days. Both of these tests are standard ways of diagnosing atrial fibrillation.
A Fast and Irregular Pulse
Your pulse should be regular. Occasionally you might “skip” a beat, this is normal. If every beat is irregular then it is probably atrial fibrillation. With a pulse oximeter you look at the blinking light to see if it is fast and irregular. When you haven't moved in about an hour, it assumes you're asleep, but it confirms this by measuring small movements (like rolling over in your sleep) as well. If there's a heart rate monitor built into your Fitbit, it combines heart rate and movement data to develop a more accurate picture of your sleep cycle.
Apparently your Fitbit can be accurate, as long as you don't move. Fitbit, Garmin and other consumer heart rate monitors are increasingly being used in clinical trials. Makers of consumer heart rate monitors, however, clearly state that they are not intended for medical purposes.
Safety Concerns
Fitness trackers emit non-ionizing radiation from their Bluetooth. The EMF radiation emitted by such devices is quite low. However, radiation exposure may increase while wearing Fitbit continuously. A few Fitbit models have been reported to cause skin irritation, wrist pain, or burns.Best Overall: Fitbit Charge 3 Heart Rate & Fitness Wristband
The Fitbit Charge 3 is a fan favorite thanks to its do-it-all features.Fitbits emit non-ionizing RF and EMF radiation. Prolonged exposure to both of these, even at extremely low levels has been known to be associated with cancer. You are better off minimizing your exposure to Fitbit EMF radiation to reduce the likelihood of developing cancer as a result of using the product.
Capturing a bad night's sleep
And the Fitbit was very accurate in recording those 2 separate phases of sleep. It doesn't record stages if the sleep is less than 3 hours, so the 1 hr 37 min sleep is just a total time. The new Series 4 version of the watch includes an echocardiogram (ECG) that looks for abnormal heart rhythms. That feature has been credited for diagnosing atrial fibrillation (AFib), a condition that can lead to strokes, heart failure, blood clots and more.
The ability of the ECG app to accurately classify an ECG recording into AFib and sinus rhythm was tested in a clinical trial of approximately 600 subjects, and demonstrated 99.6% specificity with respect to sinus rhythm classification and 98.3% sensitivity for AFib classification for the classifiable results.
Fitbit consolidates all this into its main phone app, while the Apple Watch splits this across the Watch app, the Activity app and the Health app on the iPhone. But the Apple Watch now has better activity tracking features with WatchOS 5, including better tools for runners that may give it an edge over the Fitbit.
Apple Watch cannot detect heart attacks. If you ever experience chest pain, pressure, tightness, or what you think is a heart attack, call emergency services immediately. This means Apple Watch cannot detect all instances of AFib, and people with AFib may not get a notification.
The Galaxy Watch Active 2 takes heart-rate monitoring to the next level with ECG. More and more smartwatches are coming out with the ability to detect irregular heartbeats, which is made possible by an innovative ECG sensor. We're still waiting on word from Samsung as to when the ECG feature will be available to use.
Anytime, anywhere. With the ECG app,1Apple Watch Series 5 is capable of generating an ECG similar to a single-lead electrocardiogram. It's a momentous achievement for a wearable device that can provide critical data for doctors and peace of mind for you.

The
Fitbit Versa 2 offers sleep tracking and a superior 5+ day battery life to the
Apple Watch 5's 1.5-day battery life.
Let's break it down.
| Apple Watch 5 | Fitbit Versa 2 |

| Barometric altimeter | Yes | No |
| Built-in mic | Yes | Yes |
| Built-in smart assistant | Siri | Alexa |
| All-day activity tracking | Yes | Yes |
If you use an Android phone with your Fitbit Versa 2, you can respond to messages received on the watch via preset and customizable quick replies. Currently, SMS text messages, Twitter, Gmail, Facebook Messenger, and Line all allow for this quick reply functionality on Fitbit devices such as the Versa 2.
Can you make phone calls on the Fitbit Versa 2? Best answer: Unfortunately, no. Though the Versa 2 does have a microphone, you cannot place or answer calls. Non iOS users can respond to messages with their voice on Android, and all users can activate the microphone to summon Alexa.
If not for its connectivity problems, the Versa 2 would be an excellent smartwatch. It offers accurate, comprehensive fitness features and a nice design for a reasonable price. It's also one of the longest-lasting smartwatches around, while the Alexa integration makes it more useful than its predecessor.
Now Apple will have real competition. Google bought FitBit for $2.1 billion today, and if Google gets this right, the company's Wear OS will finally become a worthy contender in the fitness, health, and wearable tech categories.
All of the staple Fitbit features are included in the Versa 2. It counts your steps, logs exercise minutes, records your heart rate, and monitors your sleep. You can view your real-time stats on the watch or open the Fitbit app on your phone.
