There are many reasons some people hate KISS: Some feel they have been far to successful with limited talent. Some think they place too much emphasis on their stage show and theatrics and not enough on the music. Their marketing and merchandising of collectible products has gotten so big it makes them appear greedy.
Kiss was a good band. I think you only need to look at the long list of musicians that cite them as a huge influence to realize they had something good going on. Even their best albums are inconsistent, but their first bunch of albums all had some great songs on them. Catchy, good riffs and fun.
