Under a new traffic fine discount initiative introduced by Dubai Police on 6th February 2019, drivers can now renew their car registration without even paying their outstanding traffic fines. The motorist can simply go to the registration center & they can decide whether or not to pay fines immediately.
It takes AED 380 to renew car registration online in Dubai. The RTA renewal is valid for a year. Additional charges include the courier fee of AED 25. For the next three months, you don't have to pay vehicle technical inspection fees, which amounts to AED 170.
How to Use Vehicle Status Certificate
- Enter the chassis number of the vehicle.
- The owner of the vehicle receives a confirmation code as a text message (this step is required to comply with RTA privacy policy).
- The owner enters the received code.
- The customer/owner checks all details pertaining to the vehicle.
The vehicle testing fee in Dubai costs 150 AED. Once approved, the new registration sticker should be pasted on the rear license plate.

Expatriates who no longer live in the UAE can renew their expired driving licenses when they return to the emirate, according to a senior Road and Transport Authority (RTA) official. Citizens and GCC nationals continue to get driving license with 10-year validity on renewal.
UAE regulations require passenger car tyres to be sold within 2 years of the date of their manufacture and changed within 5 years. To check the age of tyres look for production date on their sidewalls which indicate the week and year they were manufactured.
Sometimes, insurance companies offer a grace period to pay the premium and renew your policy after the due date. Please check this from your agent or insurance company without any further delays. This grace period can range between 3 days and 30 days with or without any late fees, charges or penalties.
You are more likely to need them for first time registration, or if transfering vehicle ownership. Emirates ID - unknown whether or not this is required. Dubai motorists can now renew their vehicle registration without paying traffic fines under a new scheme. Motorists who don't commit traffic offences for three months (counted from February 6) get a 25 per cent discount on accumulated traffic fines.
You cannot get your Salik account balance refunded or transferred. The balance will be kept in the card/account for five years in case of non-use, after which it will be forfeited by the RTA.

A grace period of 30 days is given to every car owner for renewing his/her car's registration when it is expired. In this way, by including one penalty-free month, the car registration in Abu Dhabi and Dubai are valid for 13 months.

BLACK POINTS SYSTEM IN DUBAIThis black point system in Dubai was introduced by RTA to motivate safe driving practices amongst motorists in Dubai. If a driver receives a total of 24 black points, they can face their licence being revoked and bans from driving any kind of vehicle for a year.
A new set of fees for registering, testing and licencing vehicles came into effect nationwide from December 1, according to a decree published in the official gazette. According to the new fee structure, licencing a vehicle for the first time will cost AED400, while renewing a vehicle licence will cost AED350.
At the car ownership transfer, the seller will need to bring the following documents:
- The car registration card, also known as mulkiya.
- Emirates ID.
- Passport & Residence visa.
- A letter from the bank confirming the loan repayment (if applicable)
- The certificate from the RTA mandated inspection attesting the car's condition.
