Create a user group
- From your desktop, click the More Items menu in the top right corner.
- Select User Groups from the menu.
- Click the Create a user group icon.
- Choose a name, handle, and purpose.
- Select default channels that members of the user group will be added to.
- Under Add members, search for and select the members you'd like to add.
3 Answers. According to @SlackHQ (the official Slack twitter account), "owners can only see the private channels that they are a member of". As of May 2019 Slack's privacy FAQ states that on a free plan, owners can request an export of all data, including private messages and channels.
Private channels
They're for discussions that shouldn't be open to all members, so you must be invited to join one to view it in Slack. By default, all members of a workspace (including some guests) can create private channels. Workspace Owners can change this permission and limit channel creation to certain roles.Add members to a group DM
- From a group DM, click the gear icon.
- Select Invite another member.
- Search for the person you'd like to invite, then click their name to add them.
- Click Go to create a new group DM.
Slack is essentially a chat room for your whole company, designed to replace email as your primary method of communication and sharing. A user group is a group of members in a workspace who often need to be notified at once. You can mention a group's unique name — for example, @managers — the same way you @mention another member of your workspace.
Those types of free and standard plan workspaces can access private information if they go through a legal process and get the consent of their employees who are in the Slack. In that case, you can choose not to permit the company the ability to access your messages and private conversations.
Public channels are accessible and and can be joined by any member in your Slack team. Private channels can only be accessed by people specifically invited to the channel. Additionally, private channels will only show up in the channel directory by people who are already in the channel.

Slack is most known as a glorified chatroom app for workplaces, but it's also a great tool for individuals. Here's how I use Slack as my own personal assistant of sorts. Slack can do all that for me, and since I already have it open all the time for work stuff, it's the perfect app for centralizing my other activities.
Enable Slack interactivity to allow users to rename group chat names. If you're connecting Slack with Microsoft Teams, you may need to turn on Interactivity to allow your company's users to freely rename their group chat channels.
From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left. Select Preferences from the menu. Select Sidebar. Under Sorting and grouping, tick the box next to List private channels separately.
To use the method, you'll need at least one of the channels: , groups: , im: or mpim: scopes corresponding to the conversation type you're working with. This method renames a conversation. Some types of conversations cannot be renamed. The only the user that originally created a channel or an admin may rename it.
Microsoft Teams supports flexible communication, including chats, calls, meetings, and private and group conversations. In Chat, you can have private one-on-one or group conversations that are not in the public team channel.
When you archive a team, the team (and files if you tick the option) become read-only. You and other members can still access it and view all the team activity in channels, files, and chats. You can also add or remove members and update roles. Archived teams can also be reactivated by owners.
You can create up to 200 channels over the life of a team. That number includes channels you create and later delete.
Change a channel to public or private
- In your channel list, hover over a channel's name and click on the three dots icon.
- Select Edit Channel.
- Click the Edit Channel button.
- Select either Public or Private from the Privacy drop-down menu.
- Click Save.
Re: Planner for Private Channels
You can assign people of private channels tasks just fine. Private channel members are members of the Team so you can assign them tasks. The only thing you cannot do is have a "private" plan., > Settings > Apps. Under Apps & features, search "teams". Highlight Microsoft Teams, then select Uninstall. A box will appear, then again select Uninstall to confirm.
Creating sub channels is not possible and also declined on uservoice: teams-and-subc You can create folders in teams in a channels files tab, organizing files this way.
