Note: these commands can also be run from the command prompt if you path to the installation directory on the client.
To stop the Symantec Management Client service manually from the Windows follow the below steps:
- Click Start.
- Click Run.
- Type smc -stop.
1, open the client user interface, then click Symantec Endpoint Protection > Uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection. You may be required to enter a password. In versions earlier than 14.0. 1 (14 RU1), click the Symantec Endpoint Protection client icon in the Menu bar, then click Uninstall.
Uninstalling Symantec Encryption Desktop
- Hit the Windows key to open the Start menu, or click the Start button.
- Type a few characters of the program name: “sym” (or “pgp” for older editions).
- Select the second item, Uninstall Symantec Encryption Desktop.
- When prompted, confirm that you want to uninstall the program.
Block USB pendrives access in Symantec Endpoint Protection
- In the SEPM, Under View Policies, select Application and Device Control.
- Right click the Application and Device Control Policy and select Edit.
- Select the Device Control view.
- Under the Blocked Devices section, click Add, select USB and click OK.
Symantec Endpoint Protection, developed by Broadcom Inc., is a security software suite that consists of anti-malware, intrusion prevention and firewall features for server and desktop computers. It has the largest market-share of any product for endpoint security.
stop smc using start ---> run and type "smc -stop" wihtout quotes. This will stop sepmasterservice.
Restart the Symantec Endpoint Protection services:
- Click the Start button.
- Click or search Run, then type smc -start and push Enter.
- Click the Start menu again and type services. msc.
- Open services. msc, right-click Symantec Endpoint Protection, and click Start.
To Turn off the Notifications
- Login to SEPM.
- Click on Clients on the left.
- Choose the appropriate group.
- Click the Policies tab.
- Under Policies > AntiVirus and Antispyware > Edit the Policy > Select each of the following and configure the Notifications Tab in each and UNCHECK the check box.
You want to prevent users from disabling the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client by right-clicking the client system tray icon and clicking Disable Symantec Endpoint Protection, or block a user's ability to disable Symantec Endpoint Protection on clients.
Look for “SmcInstData” at the right pane, right click on it and select Delete. Click Yes to confirm the registry key deletion. You can now uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection without being prompted to enter a password.
How to remove Symantec without password. Type smc -stop. If it prompts for a password, open regedit (Window Key + R; type regedit; hit ENTER) and then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARESymantecSymantec Endpoint ProtectionSMC. Look for the smcexit key, delete it, and then type smc -stop in the Run box again.
Stop Endpoint Protection
- Click Start > Run.
- Type msconfig and click OK.
- On the Services tab, uncheck the following (not all may be present):
- Click OK.
- Click Start > Run.
- Type regedit and click OK.
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesSepMasterService.
- Change the Start value to "4".

Issuing the smc -stop command stops the Symantec Management Client (SMC.exe) and the Symantec Endpoint Protection service (ccsvchst.exe). stopping SMC disables the following features: Client-Server communications. Automatic content updates.
Select "Internet options" Select the "Privacy" tab and click "Settings" under "Pop-up Blocker" section.
These popups aren't necessary at all. You can disable them and have Norton only alert you if there's an actual problem. To disable notifications when you download safe files, click Settings > Firewall > Intrusion and Browser Protection and set “Download Insight Notifications” to “Risks Only”.
