To download changes to your Offline Global Address List, open Outlook. Under “Send / Receive”, select “Send/Receive Groups”, then “Download Address Book”: Select “Download changes since last Send/Receive”, then choose the address book you want to update: Click OK.
An offline address book (OAB) is a copy of an address list collection that's been downloaded so a Microsoft Outlook user can access the address book while disconnected from the server. Microsoft Exchange generates the new OAB files and then compresses the files and places them on a local share.
Remove an address book
- On the File tab, click Account Settings > Account Settings.
- On the Address Books tab, click the address book that you want to remove, and then click Remove.
To export contact information from Microsoft Outlook to your participant headquarters address book, perform these steps:

How do I update my Global Address Book in Outlook?

Right-click Global Address List, and then click Properties. Under The current server is, the local path of the offline address book files is displayed.
Outlook 2013 or 2016 for Windows

How to Import Your Address Book to Outlook 2016 and Prior
- Click File.
- Select Open & Export.
- Select Import/Export.
- Select "Import from another program or file" and click Next.
- Select the kind of Address Book file kind you're importing and click Next.
- Click Browse.
- Select the file you're importing and click OK.
Outlook 2010 and later versions
- On the Home Page, click Address Book to open your Address Book.
- Click the list below Address Book, and then select Contacts.
- On the File menu, click New Entry.
- Under Select the entry type, click New Contact Group.
- Under Put this Entry, click In The Contacts.
- Click OK.
How to update the Global Address List in Outlook 2013
- Click File > Account Settings > Download Address Book.
- Untick Download changes since last Send/Receive.
- Click OK.
Follow these steps to disable caching of the global address book:
- Close any open Outlook windows.
- Open the registry editor (regedit.exe).

How to change your default Address Book to the Global Address

In Outlook 2010, select the File tab in the upper left corner, then Download Address Book from the Account Settings drop down menu. When you work offline, you have no access to an online GAL, so of course you're working from the OAB. The Outlook user does NOT see the change in his Address Book, when looking at the Global Address List.
How to Clear the Whole Auto-Complete Cache:
- In the Outlook main window, click the File menu.
- From the File menu, click the Options button.
- In the Options, click the Mail tab and scroll down to the Send Messages section.
- Click the Empty Auto-Complete List button.
- A confirmation box will appear, click Yes.
