Re: 10.0000 SUPPLY MEMORY ERROR: Usually it has something to do with the cartridges, i would pull them out and look them over for defects, and reset them. After that I would clean the contacts on the cartridges even though they are new. Here is a link to a document that will walk you through that process.
Just take out your toner cartridge. If you find an orange color notch on the left side, just remove it. Re-insert the cartridge and restart the printer. This should resolve your issue.
Firmware updates are nothing new in the printer industry. HP recently released a firmware update which has caused a bit of a stir in the aftermarket community. This particular update produces a "Supply Problem/Error" by causing aftermarket cartridges to become unrecognized by the upgraded printer.
- Turn the product off.
- Press the right arrow button. Hold this button as you turn the product on.
- When Permanent storage init. appears on the display, release the right arrow button.
- Turn the product off.

Click Laserjet upgrade, choose “Manage Updates”, choose “Check Automatically” and “Allow Updates”, choose NO. Allow Downgrade – If the printer firmware version has been updated to the latest 20201021, you can downgrade the firmware version. Choose “Manage Updates” and select “Allow Downgrade” and Click YES.
Restarting the printer will reset the device and clear its memory of any active print jobs. For this, turn off the printer and unplug it from the power socket. Leave it for a minute and then plug the printer into the power socket. This will fully clear out the power of the memory and erase it completely.
Cancel the print job, if you want to delete the remaining data in the printer memory. Reduce the complexity of your document or lower the print resolution. Change the following settings in the supplied Windows driver, and then try again.
If your HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP M280 or M281 printer has stopped printing and a “Supply Problem” message has appeared on the display, HP automatically upgraded your printer firmware. This upgrade includes code that stops the printer from recognizing present compatible toner cartridges.
The cartridge memory (CM) of the 3592 tape cartridge. Each 3592 data cartridge contains a passive, contactless, silicon storage device called cartridge memory (CM). This CM holds information about the cartridge and the media in the cartridge, and holds statistics about the media in the cartridge.
If a toner cartridge is installed and the message displays, use the following steps to fix the issue.
- Step 1: Use genuine HP toner cartridges.
- Step 2: Check for packing materials and paper.
- Step 3: Check the printer for additional jammed paper.
- Step 4: Clean the electric contacts on the toner cartridge.
I found another post from a user with a similar printer (HP M130NW), and the steps to reset to defaults worked for me:
- Turn the product off.
- Press and hold the Cancel (X) and Right Arrow (>) button at the same time, and then turn the. product on.
- When the message Permanent storage init.
For non-internet connected printers – Find the devices and printers section in your control panel, then select your hp printer. Find the cartridge protection tab in the HP toolbox and click the disable cartridge protection option & save.
