Transcend StoreJet 1TB external drive disassembly
- Remove the outer rubber shock cover. This can be easily done by simply peeling the cover back and slowly sliding it off of the plastic case.
- Remove the three plastic chassis screws. This requires a small Phillips style screwdriver.
- Separate the top and bottom cases.
- Remove the SATA adapter.

How to Format an External Drive in OS X
- Connect the drive to the Mac.
- Open Disk Utility.
- Select the drive you want to format.
- Click Erase.
- Give the drive a descriptive name and leave the default settings: OS X Extended format and GUID partition map.
- Click Erase and OS X will format the drive.
Step1: Click "Go," and click "Utilities." Step2: Click "Disk Utility." Step3: Select the external hard disk, and click "Erase." Step4: Select "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)."
Step 1 – Make sure the SATA cable or USB cable is tightly connected to the internal or external drive and SATA port or the USB port on the computer. Step 2 -If that doesn't work, try another SATA or USB port on the computer's motherboard. Step 3 – Try connecting the internal or external drive to another computer.
Reinstalling device driver
- Open Start.
- Search for Device Manager.
- Click the top result to open the experience.
- Expand the Disk drives branch.
- Right-click the external drive with the problem, click the Uninstall device option.
- Click the Uninstall button.
- Disconnect the removable drive from your device.
If the drive still isn't working, unplug it and try a different USB port. It's possible the port in question is failing, or just being finicky with your specific drive. If it's plugged into a USB 3.0 port, try a USB 2.0 port. If it's plugged into a USB hub, try plugging it directly into the PC instead.
Quite often, issues such as a Seagate external hard disk light blinking but not being detected can be fixed by simply rebooting the computer. To do this, disconnect your external hard drive from the computer. Now turn off the PC for at least 1 minute. Then reconnect the external hard drive and turn on the computer.
Disconnect the interface cable, wait 10 seconds and then re-connect. Only use certified interface cables, such as the cables provided with your LaCie drive. If you have followed all of these steps and the drive is still not recognized, shut down your computer, wait 3 to 5 minutes, restart your computer and try again.
Check Apple's Disk Utility to see if an external drive is showing up. Disk Utility is within System Preferences, or you can find it using Spotlight. If it is visible, then click the option to Mount, which should make it visible on the desktop and in the External Drives option in the Finder menu.
Password-protect a folder
- In Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder you want to password-protect. Right-click on the folder.
- Select Properties from the menu. On the dialog that appears, click the General tab.
- Click the Advanced button, then select Encrypt content to secure data.
- Double-click the the folder to ensure you can access it.
- You can “put” a password to an external hard drive or memory is stick by encrypting it.
- Connect your hdd to a Windows 10 pc or laptop, locate the hdd in My Computer, right click and select Bitlocker Encryption.
- A wizard will appear and you just need to follow the simple instructions.
