You can't. The Base Station can only be connected to the Internet through an Ethernet Cable or via a 2.4 or 5 GHz wifi connection. If you are connected to a wifi connection, the connection and your credentials will be removed as a security feature if you plug in an Ethernet cable.
Try uninstalling the app, restarting your phone, then reinstalling the app. Try logging into the app on wifi only or Cell Data only.
Unless you're on whole home wifi (eero, google wifi, orbi, etc), your Wi-Fi router will have a 2.4 GHz band. Newer routers are often dual-band router, with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Some routers default to giving each band the same name.
If you want to search for Wi-Fi channels on your phone instead of your PC, the easiest-to-use application we've found is Wifi Analyzer on Android. Just install the free app from Google Play and launch it. You'll see an overview of the wireless networks in your area and which channels they're using.
The light on the Ring Doorbell will spin blue when it is notifying you of a potential call. Solid Blue Light – You will see a solid blue light when you answer a call or connect to your Ring Doorbell. This indicates the doorbell speaker is turned on and someone has connected and can listen.
For our devices, they will only function and operate when they have a stable wifi connection. Without a wifi connection, the device will report as offline and will be unable to record and store video at this time! Since our devices are wifi enabled device, they need this as a requirement to function in full.
The Ring Doorbell Pro has no option to store videos to your computer (or NVR) directly or to continuously upload video to their cloud service, but the Live Video option allows you to view the camera in real time. Since 8 hours of quality video recording wo… see more.
If your Ring device is offline, it will say "Offline" under the Network header. Check to see whether another Wi-Fi device is having a problem connecting to the network. Unplug your router for 30 seconds and then plug it back in. See if your Ring Doorbell automatically reconnects.
Wi-Fi-Based Security Systems & CamerasRing recommends 1-2 Mbps per device for both upload and download speeds. Depending on the camera and video quality that you select, the Nest camera requires anywhere from 0.15 to 4 Mbps of bandwidth and Arlo cameras use 0.3 – 1.5 Mbps.
Ring Protect Basic is $3 per month or $30 per year for each device subscribed (in the US). Ring Protect Plus is $10 per month or $100 each year to cover all devices at your home (in the US).
Yes, Ring's cameras and doorbells can be connected to different home networks within your Ring app. You can also connect some devices to your WiFi network(s), and others to your Ring Chime Pro – it's up to you.
Higher radio frequencies allow faster data transmission, so 5GHz allows much faster network connections than 2.4GHz. If you want to use high-bandwidth applications, like streaming video, over your wireless network, 5GHz is by far the better choice.
Simultaneous dual-band routers are capable of receiving and transmitting on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies at the same time. This provides two independent and dedicated networks which allows more flexibility and bandwidth.
Ring devices require a wireless internet connection for operation. Ring devices are compatible with wireless routers running 802.11 B, G, or N, on 2.4 GHz and (for certain devices) 5.0 GHz.
When it was first released,
5 GHz WiFi was advertised as being faster and sometimes 'more reliable' than 2.4 GHz WiFi. Whilst this is broadly true, many
Ring and Nest devices still seem to only support 2.4 GHz WiFi.
Which Ring doorbells & cameras support 5 GHz WiFi.
| Device | Supports 5 GHz WiFi? |
|---|
| Ring Stick Up Cam Solar | No |
The single biggest difference between the two is in video quality. The earlier model outputs a 720p video image while the second-generation doorbell provides 1080p. There's also been some improvements in video processing, because the picture from the newer doorbell is significantly better.
Ring Doorbell can detect motion as far as 30 feet away.
The three most common causes of this problem are the following: A poor connection between your mobile device and the internet. Slow internet upload and download speeds. A poor connection between your Ring device and your router.
Improving the Wi-Fi Connection to your Doorbell Cam
- Test the performance of your doorbell indoors. Try operating your Doorbell Cam Pro running indoors.
- Consider moving your wireless router.
- Use your router's 2.4 GHz band.
- Install a Wi-Fi network extender.
- Consider upgrading your Internet service plan.
It sounds like distance and interference could be a cause for this, given how it goes offline but then automatically reconnects later. If these two Contact Sensors are well within the range of your Base Station, I recommend removing them from the zwave network and readding them.
