Change the default view
- Click File > Options > Advanced.
- Under Display, in the Open all documents using this view list, select the view that you want to set as the new default, and then click OK.
Page setup. The page setup are the parameters defined by the user that help determine how a printed page appear. Those parameters can include everything from the size, margins, page orientation, to quality of print. More plainly, it's a menu that allows users to customize the layout of a page.
Start a blank presentation in PowerPoint and, in the main menu bar, select the Design tab. Here, click on the Slide Size button on the right and then select Custom Slide Size. Note: Some versions of PowerPoint may have a Page Setup option instead of the Slide Size button.
You can add margins to individual shapes and text boxes on a PowerPoint slide using Format Shape. Right-click on the shape or text box and select Format Shape from the menu. Select Size & Properties on the Format Shape panel. You can then specify exact dimensions for right, left, top and bottom margins.
Launch PowerPoint and open the presentation for which you want to adjust the paper margins. Click the “File” menu and select the “Page Setup” option, which will launch a separate dialog window. Click the “Slides Sized For” menu and select the “Custom” option.
Note: Unlike Word document pages, PowerPoint slides don't have margins that you can adjust to change the slide layout. Your slide stretches from edge to edge. When you print the slides, printer limitations can result in a white edge around the slides. However, you can change the margins inside Text Boxes and Shapes.
Can I print my slides without white page margins?
- Select File > Print > Print Full Page Slides.
- In the Print dialog box, look for a More settings link and select it.
- Look for "Advanced" options or a "Margins" option that you can adjust, such as in the example below:
Find Slide Design Variants in PowerPoint
Variants are a part of the same theme that you've selected, but are usually a different look.Click "Page Layout" and click "Margins" to open a drop-down menu. Click "Custom Margins" to open the Page Setup dialog box.
You can change your page setup by going to Design tab, in the Customize group, click Slide size and finally Custom slide size. When you do changes there PPT will ask if you want to adapt the slide content to the new size.
PowerPoint Primer: The Design Tab. The next tab in the Ribbon is the Design tab. This contains the basic slide formatting tools. If you click on the Tables button, this menu will appear:.
To change the slide size:
- Select the Design tab of the toolbar ribbon.
- Select Page Setup on the left end of the toolbar.
- In the Page Setup dialog box, under Slides sized for, choose the predefined size you want, or choose Custom and specify the dimensions you want.
Landscape is the default page setup orientation of slide in PowerPoint.
PowerPoint now asks you to choose between maximizing the size of your content on the new layout (to do this, click Maximize) or scaling it down so that all of the content fits into the new layout (to do this, click Ensure Fit). Note: If you choose to maximize, some content might fall outside the print margins.
PowerPoint doesn't allowing for the mixing of landscape and portrait slides in the same presentation, but we describe a workaround below. You can put a portrait-oriented image or shape on a landscape slide. When projected on a screen, it will look the same on a landscape slide as it would on a portrait slide.
Can I print my slides without white page margins?

There are two rulers in PowerPoint: one displays horizontally at the top of the active slide, and the other displays vertically along the left edge of the slide (shown below). To show the ruler, click View, and in the Show group, check Ruler. To hide the ruler, click View, and in the Show group, clear the Ruler box.

To print handouts, follow these steps:
- Click the File tab, and click Print.
- Enter the desired number of copies.
- Choose a different printer if needed from the Printer drop-down list.
- Click Full Page Slides to open a menu.
- Click one of the layouts in the Handouts section of the menu.
Select your printer from the “Printer” drop-down menu and select “Actual size” under “Size Options.” Click the “Page Setup” button. If your printer supports borderless printing, the Margins section of the dialog box will be editable; change each margin setting to “0” and click “OK.”
Workaround for printing slides without white edges
- Go to Design > Slide Size > Custom Slide Size.
- Select either Portrait or Landscape, depending on the orientation of the slide you want to print.
- Click View > Notes Master.
- In the Placeholders group, uncheck the boxes for the text placeholders (such as Page Number, Header, Footer, and Date) that you don't want to print.
Choose the desired paper size in the printer driver settings, set a scaling factor that will result in the PowerPoint slide size being scaled to the correct size on the printed output, turn "Scale to fit paper" OFF and print.
