Applying Glue to a Small Piece of Foam

Never tried the Liquid Nails for Projects, but I've used Liquid Nails Heavy Duty with good success on the foam board. The Woodland Scenics product meant for their foamboard also works just fine. Whatever you use should not be solvent based. In most cases that will melt the foam.
Cut the tip off a tube of foamboard adhesive or polystyrene construction adhesive with a utility knife. Foamboard adhesive is designed specifically for foam applications, so it's the best choice for the job and available at most home improvement stores. It successfully adheres to the foam insulation in most cases.
Depending on what you hope the outcome is you can use liquid nails, wood glue, and even foam insulation spray or panel foam adhesive to join pieces together. Foam itself IS toxic as you shape it so you need to wear masks to work with it and I suggest working outside or in a well ventilated space.
Two component epoxies bond well to polystyrene. Permabond ET500 is a clear non-yellowing epoxy with a fast set time. UV Curable – UV Curable adhesives are an excellent choice for bonding polystyrene.
The best glues to use on Styrofoam are the actual Styrofoam glues such as UHU Styrofoam glue, Weldbond and 3M 77. Styrofoam glue comes in both tubes and spray. The adhesive spray, like 3M 77, makes creating projects easier and without the mess. With 3M 77, the glue dries fast and provides permanent bonding.

Hot glue gun works best for most projects with polystyrene/Styrofoam. Hot glue in a low heat glue gun will work. If it has higher heat, it may melt the Styrofoam.
