Sharps are always applied to key signatures following the circle of fifths, starting on F. So: F#, C#, G#, D#, A#, E#, B#. To identify key signatures with sharps, take the name of the last sharp, and go up a half step to name the major key. The fifth sharp is A#, half a step up is B. B major has five sharps.
How about the fingering of the D major chord? For the right hand in root position, place your thumb on the root of the scale which is D. Place your middle finger on F sharp and your little finger on A. For the first inversion, put your thumb on F#, your index finger on A and your fifth finger on D.

The D chord on guitar is very difficult for beginners because you have to use three 'split' fingers (they're not bunched together in an easy or compact group) and secondly you must avoid playing 2 strings. They mean “don't play this string”.)
