Trademark Application Process:
- Complete a trademark search.
- Secure your rights.
- Submit an initial application at uspto.gov on the Trademark Electronic Application System or TEAS.
- Fill out the TEAS form for an initial application. Be sure to upload the file of your logo.
- Submit an "intent-to-use" form.
- Pay the fees.
Copyright and trademark symbols can be added by using a keyboard shortcut. For example: To insert the copyright symbol, press Ctrl+Alt+C. To insert the trademark symbol, press Ctrl+Alt+T.
Activate the numeric keypad by pressing the NumLock key.
- For the Copyright symbol (©), hold the Alt key down and type 0169.
- For the Trademark symbol (TM), hold the Alt key down and type 0153.
- For the Registered symbol (®), hold the Alt key down and type 0174.
Registering a trademark for a company name is pretty straightforward. Many businesses can file an application online in less than 90 minutes, without a lawyer's help. The simplest way to register is on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Web site, .
The symbol â„¢ (trademark) is sometimes used when a trademark has been filed (applied for) but not yet registered. As soon as the trademark has been definitively registered, the ® symbol is used. This stands for 'registered trademark'. Therefore, you are allowed to use them provided they refer to a registered trademark.
To do this, open an app where you can type using your iPhone or iPad keyboard, then:
- Type copyright; the C circle symbol will appear in your QuickType options.
- Type registered; the R circle symbol will appear in your QuickType options.
- Type trademark; the TM circle symbol will appear in your QuickType options.
To type symbols such as the trademark symbol on your Android, you need to switch to the symbols page on the keyboard.
- Tap in a text entry field to bring up the onscreen keyboard.
- Press the "?
- Tap on "~{" to bring up a second page of symbols.
- Push the trademark symbol to insert it in your text.
The TM symbol can generally be used by any person or business to indicate that a particular word, phrase or logo is intended to serve as an identifier for the source of that product or service. The (TM) symbol actually has no legal meaning. You can use the symbol on any mark that your company uses without registering it. But as mentioned, there is no legal protection when using TM. If you use a mark that infringes on someone else's trademark, you still put yourself at risk for legal trouble.Jul 21, 2020
On a Mac, you can insert the trademark symbols using the following keys:
- Type in Option + 2 for the â„¢ mark.
- Type in Option + R for the ® mark.
- Type in Option + G for the © symbol.
