Once your hygrometer has been calibrated, it's time to season your cigar humidor. To start, take the sponge, place it in a bowl, and soak it with distilled water or propylene glycol solution. Make sure the sponge is completely saturated. Then wring it out and place it in the cigar humidor on top of the plastic bag.

In the first place, you must prevent the inside environment of your humidors from getting too moist or too hot by keeping it in the ideal range (68% - 70% and 20°C - 21°C). A newly seasoned humidor is all the more sensitive. When you place those dry cigars in the humidor, they will immediately start detracting from that humidity simply because they are dry and they are soaking up moisture. This will cause a humidity drop in any humidor.

When seasoning your humidor, you'll need some distilled water. Do not use tap water in place of distilled water, because it can leave mineral deposits. Use a clean (and new) sponge or cloth to wipe down the cedar wood inside the humidor – including the lid, trays, and dividers if applicable.
Let everything sit for at least 30 minutes to breakdown the buildup and then follow up by using your soft brush to clear away any stuck-on residue.
Guide to Setting up Your Humidor Correctly

Just before loading in your cigars, remove your cigar humidifier unit from your humidor (this is the sponge like plastic device that you soak in distilled water). Submerge the cigar humidifier in distilled water or half distilled water and half Propylene Glycol for 30 minutes.
You aren't going to break anything by using distilled water. Too much PG and your humidifier will eventually "clog up" (in their terms), and too much water you will have RH spikes and drops.
