The current AAA minimum is $2150 per month (and remember, they only get paid for six months of the year). They also receive a $25 per diem when they are on the road ("meal money"). More experienced players on AAA contracts will make more, perhaps two or even three times that amount.

As a generic answer, usually 1st–3rd round players get at least 3–4 years to work (should be in AAA or close by the 4th year) out their kinks in the minors (barring injury) before they are either promoted or cut.

The 40 Man roster is the group of players who are eligible to be added to the active (25 man) roster. Generally, any player that a team wishes to use in the postseason must be on the 40-man roster by August 31st (although there are a few loopholes on this).
Designated for assignment is a contractual term used in Major League Baseball. When a player is designated for assignment, he is immediately removed from the club's 40-man roster. This gives the club 10 days to decide what to do with the player while freeing up a roster spot for another transaction, if needed.
What are MLB options? An option (optional assignment) allows a club to move a player on its 40-man roster to and from the minor leagues without exposing him to other teams. When a player is out of options, he cannot be sent to the minors without first clearing waivers.

A player can refuse to play for the team that drafts him. In that case, the team will most likely squat on the rights to sign that player, to see if they get a good offer from another team. Eventually, the Colts caved in and trade him to the Denver Broncos for two players and a first round draft pick the next year.
However, the Selective Service System remains in place as a contingency plan; all male U.S. citizens, regardless of where they live, and male immigrants, whether documented or undocumented, residing within the United States, who are 18 through 25 are required to register.
Winter Meetings. Representatives of all 30 Major League Baseball teams and their 160 minor league baseball affiliates convene for four days each December in the Winter Meetings to discuss league business and conduct off-season trades and transactions.
The basic categories of players eligible to be drafted are:
- High school players, if they have graduated from high school and have not yet attended college or junior college;
- College players, from four-year colleges who have either completed their junior or senior years or are at least 21 years old; and.
If no team claims a player off waivers after three business days, the player has cleared waivers and may be assigned to a minor league team, traded (to any team), or released outright.
The draft order is determined based on the previous season's standings, with the team possessing the worst record receiving the first pick. The first amateur draft was held in 1965. Unlike most sports drafts, the first-year player draft is held mid-season, in June.
