The closest you can get by train is Vietri sul Mare, the last town on the coast before Salerno. From Naples you can take a local train to Sorrento, then either a bus or a ferry to Positano. Or you could take a ferry from Naples to Sorrento, followed by either another ferry to Positano or a bus.
You can take a train from Florence to Positano via Napoli Centrale, Napoli P. Garibaldi, Meta, and Meta in around 5h 46m. Alternatively, you can take a bus from Florence to Positano via Berlinguer, Prato, Prato, and Roma in around 10h 32m.
Amalfi coast is absolutely beautiful and 100% worth it. It is definitely a place to relax and there aren't really a lot of things to see like in Rome (except for a day trip to Pompeii of course) so it depends on what you are into. It is breathtakingly beautiful and relaxing and such a great vibe.

The coastline in sorrento is not nearly as dramatic as Positanobut you can certainly visit amalfi or positano during the day if you stay in sorrento. Without a doubt stay in Positano. There is no other place like it for sheer beauty and dramatic scenery.
The Amalfi Coast is at its most enjoyable – and its most popular – between April and October, before the cooler winter weather sets in, with May and September being the best times to visit. The weather is beautiful and the activities plentiful, without the crowds that July and August bring.
Re: Is it worth going to Capri? One day on Capri is better than never coming. A week would be nicer but if all you have is a day, then do it. Capri is beautiful and touristy but you can get away from the tourists by walking a ways or at night after the day trippers have gone.
Yes, both the Cinque Terre and Amalfi coast have spectacular, seaside views. The Amalfi coast is also better-positioned, and better-connected, for day trips to other major sights. Depending on where exactly you're staying, you can easily day-trip to Capri, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Paestum, and Naples, among other options.

Much like you would on a day tour from Rome, you can choose to explore the famous Pompeii ruins and poke around Positano, but you may also have time to stroll through Sorrento and see the best sights in Naples. Most Amalfi Coast day trips from Rome begin between 6am and 7am, and return around 9pm.
Amalfi is a very pretty town and was once a great maritime power. It is popular with visitors because of its dramatic and beautiful setting between the sea and the hills. Ravello is different again and sits above the Bay of Salerno.

If Rome for you just means St Peters, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Colosseum, and a quick jaunt thru The Forum, then 2 or 3 full days is just fine. If you are interested in a plan heavy with churches and museums then a week would not be enough.
There are some good reasons to visit Naples, though.
It's actually the birthplace of the original wood-fired Neopolitan pizza, making the city worth a visit for die-hard pizza fans.
