Typically breast reduction includes lifting the breast tissue and nipple position as a part of the procedure in addition to removing the excess breast tissue. When I talk about breast reduction with patients I try to guide away from a specific bra cup size as the goal.
If you are more than a little overweight, then, yes, you need to lose weight before you undergo a breast reduction. This is especially true at your age. Being overweight causes many medical problems. Therefore, you need to get to a normal weight now and learn to stay there to prevent significant problems in the future.
Most of my breast reduction patients complain that they try everything but cannot lose weight. As you can imagine, if you had two 10 lb. On average, a breast reduction patient in my practice will lose anywhere from ten to twenty pounds in the first six months after surgery.
3. Weight of breast tissue removed. Most insurance companies will want to know the weight of breast tissue the plastic surgeon believes he or she can remove during a breast reduction. This number may be 450 grams, 500 grams or 600 grams.

However, it's important that you don't sleep on your side or roll onto your side in your sleep. This could put pressure on the implant or your incisions as you heal, which may affect your results. My patients can typically return to side sleeping (while wearing a supportive bra) within 2 weeks.
Common Signs You May Be Right for Breast Reduction
Breasts that seem to be out of proportion to the rest of your body. Pain in the neck, back, and shoulders caused by the weight of your breasts. Grooves in the tops of your shoulders that have been caused by your bra straps.Have someone drive you home after surgery and help you at home for 1-2 days. Get plenty of rest and follow a balanced diet. Constipation is a side effect of decreased activity, use of pain medicines, and dehydration. Be sure to walk, drink fluids regularly, and consider adding raw fruit to your diet.
You may shower two days following surgery whether you have drains or not. Do wash by gently touching your breasts. Do not shower if you have had a free nipple graft.
After surgery, you will probably feel weak. You may feel sore for 2 to 3 weeks. You also may feel pulling or stretching in your breast area. Although you may need pain medicine for a week or two, you can expect to feel better and stronger each day.
Wear your bra 24 hours a day for six weeks after surgery. You may remove the bra to shower or for washing. After six weeks, you may wear any bra you want, as long as it has no underwire. Do not buy underwire bras for three months from the day of surgery.
Most women who get breast reduction are very satisfied with the results. Men with conditions such as gynecomastia (in which male breasts are abnormally enlarged) may also get breast reduction. Because it's major surgery, you should know the benefits, potential complications, and what's involved in recovery.
The beast candidate for breast reduction has fully developed breasts. Your weight should be stable. If you plan on losing weight it is better to do so before surgery. Your BMI is 35 (based on your height and weight) it is considered best practice to operate on a patient that has a BMI of less than 30.
