Well, they're not monkeys. And they don't live in the sea. Sea-Monkeys are a hybrid breed of brine shrimp called Artemia NYOS invented in 1957 by Harold von Braunhut. Initially marketed as "Instant Life," Sea-Monkeys are sold in hatching kits as novelty aquarium pets.
Caring for Your Dragon from Hatching
- Keep your dragon's nest clean and filled with warm dry sand.
- Feed them twice a day with fresh raw meat, and clean purified water.
- Once a week, use a soft cloth to take off any old dry scales, and then apply safflower oil to their scaly skin.
Pour 12 ounces of water into any clean glass container or (preferably) a special Sea-Monkey® tank, such as the Micro-View Ocean Zoo. Distilled water is recommended , but if not available , tap or spring water may be used. These are your newborn pet Sea-Monkeys® . More will hatch in days to come.

Wild brine shrimp eat microscopic planktonic algae. Cultured brine shrimp can also be fed particulate foods including yeast, wheat flour, soybean powder or egg yolk.

Clean out the tank by placing the current water with Sea-Monkeys in a bowl, they will do fine between journeys. Then clean the tank. If the water is extremely dirty you might want to remove most of the algae using a turkey blaster or the Million bubble aqua leash sold with sea monkey sets.
Another method of aeration is to pour the water back and fourth 5 or 6 times from their tank to another container, but always finishing in the original tank. If you're uncomfortable with this, you can also try stirring their water with a plastic spoon for 2 to 3 minutes to move air from the surface to the bottom.
Avoid pouring straight into the tank. You must pour the distilled water into a bowl and let it stand for 24 hours and then pour into the tank. Do not forget to aerate the tank twice a day. Remember that your sea monkeys require oxygen to thrive.
You can use bottled water, distilled water, or any form of unchlorinated water. Avoid using carbonated water or tap water, as it often contains fluoride and other minerals that may not be good for your sea monkeys. This will ensure the water will be warm enough for the sea monkey eggs.
