My best advice is to only send thredUP your very best quality unwanted clothes and to wait until you have enough to justify the cost of a $10 Clean Out Kit. It also wouldn't hurt for you to consider listing your gently used clothing on Poshmark or Ebay.
If you are selling, and you are looking to make a little more money for your clothes with the time to do the work, Poshmark is a good option. Personally, I'll continue to use both ThredUP and Poshmark, because I like what each has to offer, but I love ThredUP for its online store experience and easy clean out bags.
Since the clothing is not washed at ThredUp facilities, there's “no knowing where it's been”. Unfortunately, lots of people who send clothing to ThredUp also use abundant fabric softener.
