Subaru has named its upcoming rear-drive sports car the BRZ—the company says it stands for “Boxer engine, Rear-wheel drive, and Zenithâ€â€”and announced that production will start in the spring of 2012. The car, of course, was created in collaboration with Toyota, who will release it here under the Scion banner.

The redesigned BRZ has more horsepower and torque, but it still doesn't have a turbo. Here's why Subaru stuck with natural aspiration on the affordable sports car.
The Limited Edition BRZ tS comes with STI-tuned front and rear suspension with Brembo brakes, a new Ceramic White exterior color with cherry red accents and BRZ tS badging, and inside gets black leather and Alcantara upholstery with contrasting red stitching.
The 2022 BRZ will be offered in both Premium and Limited trims and is available with two transmission choices; a standard six-speed manual or an available six-speed automatic with a new Sport mode designed for more aggressive driving.
So why isn't the BRZ engine turbocharged as well? One reason why the BRZ is better off without a turbocharger, according to Fenske, is gearing. The naturally aspirated engine has a higher redline (7,500 rpm) than the turbocharged engine (6,000 rpm), allowing for more aggressive gearing.
