Though 24-carat gold is the softest of all gold carats, it is still the most expensive gold available for purchase. 24-carat gold is defined as 100 percent pure. 18-carat gold is considered 75 percent pure because only 18 of its 24 parts are gold.

Iron – One of the components of steel, and the go-to metal for tool and weapon makers throughout the ages, iron completes the list of the world's strongest metals. Cast iron scores about 5 on the Mohs scale, and its yield and tensile strengths are about 246 and 414 Mpa respectively.
Bronze is harder than copper as a result of alloying that metal with tin or other metals. Bronze is also more fusible (i.e., more readily melted) and is hence easier to cast. It is also harder than pure iron and far more resistant to corrosion.
So, if you are wondering if silver can damage gold, the answer is no. Silver isn't harder or tougher than gold, which means that it will not damage the gold. Metals like tungsten and platinum will, however, damage gold because they are harder than gold.
Platinum is Stronger and More DurableThough both gold and platinum are strong and durable precious metals, platinum is the stronger and more durable of the two. For example, the prongs holding the center stone of a platinum engagement ring are less likely to break then those of a gold engagement ring.

Real, pure gold, when exposed to the flame, will get brighter after a while as it gets hotter, but will not darken. Fake gold pieces, such as fool's gold (actually pyrite, an iron sulfide) and pieces made of brass, iron or copper alloys will darken or otherwise change color when exposed to fire.
There is a reason why 24K gold is not widely used in jewelry and it has to do with the physical properties of the metal. Gold is very soft and any piece made solely of it will bend easily. This is why gold is mixed with other metals, which make the resulting jewelry more durable (and also cheaper).

Wearing solid gold jewelry, white gold or yellow gold, in the shower will not harm the metal itself, however it can reduce the shine therefore it is not recommended. Showering with gold plated jewelry can eventually cause the gold layer to wear off completely, therefore you should definitely refrain from doing so.
Tarnishing is superficial corrosion of the carat gold surface and is evident by a usually dark discolouration – the tarnish film. Copper oxides are red – black in colour and silver sulphides* are black, although the tarnish films may be more complex in nature, such as hydrated oxide/sulphide mixtures.
