Parks, Recreation and Historic PreservationLake Tiorati was formed by clearing swampland in Harriman State Park and constructing a concrete dam to make two ponds into one large lake. Surrounded by meadows and rolling, wooded hills, the park offers excellent swimming, fishing, boating and picnicking.

Sebago Lake State Park is where you'll find the best access to swimming. Some of the most popular are Songo River Beach (which is located inside the state park), Tassel Top Beach in Raymond, Nason's Beach and the Town of Sebago Public Beach in Sebago.
Bear Mountain State Park is situated in rugged mountains rising from the west bank of the Hudson River. The park features a large play field, shaded picnic groves, lake and river fishing access, a swimming pool, Trailside Museums and Zoo, hiking, biking and cross-country ski trails.

Rye Town Park - Oakland Beach is located in the City of Rye in Westchester County. The 1200-foot white sand beach is open to the general public and has access to the shores of the Long Island Sound. The beach is open for swimming from the Friday before Memorial Day until Labor Day from 9am until 5pm.
All pools and beaches are for county residents only, with the exception of Playland Pool and Beach and Croton Point Beach. The pass can be purchased and used at all swimming facilities except Croton Point beach and Playland pool and beach.
“Certain places like Croton Point Beach is almost always safe for swimming,†said Dan Shapley, the Ossining-based Riverkeeper's water quality program manager, who released the group's findings Monday.

Even though summers in Vermont are short, the days can be pretty hot—especially in the city. And while the beaches along Lake Champlain's scenic shores are great, there is nothing quite like dipping your toes into an honest-to-goodness Vermont swimming hole.
