The 2020 hurricane season has produced 27 named storms through October, not counting Eta. That number is three ahead of the previous record holder, 2005, through this point in the season. In fact, the 29th storm of the season, Tropical Storm Theta, formed on November 10.
October may be the start of fall in the Bahamas, but simmering temperatures and high humidity can feel more like the dog days of August. With the summer rain abating and hotels and airlines hustling to fill rooms and seats, October can be an ideal time for an inexpensive, uncrowded Bahamian vacation.

In the Dow Jones Island Index, Curacao was ranked as the Caribbean island least likely to be hit by a hurricane, followed by Bonaire, Grand Cayman, Barbados, and Aruba. Islands of the southernmost Caribbean—such as Aruba, Barbados, Curacao, Bonaire, Grenada, and Trinidad and Tobago—rarely ever get hit by hurricanes.
While cruise ships can typically "outrun" most storms, passengers may still experience rough seas as their ship skirts the edges of a storm. On rare occasions, a ship may have to go through the outer bands of storm to reach safe haven in a port, though most times ships will go out to sea to avoid storms.
July is often free of tropical storms as the water cools (particularly in the southern Caribbean), while warmer water temperatures make October the month when the most hurricanes form, and June the second most likely.
Hurricanes can last anywhere between under a day and up to a month. Typhoon John, which formed in the Pacific Ocean in the 1994 season, lasted for a total of 31 days, making it one of the longest hurricanes recorded.

Average Low Temp. Another great part of visiting Florida in the fall is that the water temperatures are still pretty warm, with ocean and gulf temperatures hovering in the low 80s all month long. There is always a possibility of rain, but much less than the rainy summer months and it shouldn't ruin your plans.

While much of the northern U.S. begins to cool down in September, Florida is still hot and humid.
