The SkyMiles App
You can also start at Delta.com and navigate to Travel Information > Mobile and app. You can only see if you'r eon the Standby list if you have a reservation on that flight. When viewing your reservation, you will see a tab for Upgrade and another for Standby.Contrary to popular belief, booking airline tickets late is often cheaper. Airlines know that business travellers tend to book their seats at the last minute and are willing to pay a premium for their flights. The logic follows that the earlier you book, the cheaper your seat will be.
With standby, you can wait for an open seat on a different flight. You can use the Same-Day Standby option for travel within the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands on Delta and Delta Connection flights. Origin and/or destination changes are not available for a Same-Day Standby.
Like many airlines, Delta offers reduced change fees and a few special options for changing your flight plans within 24 hours of your flight's originally scheduled departure. If you want to change your flight but no confirmed seats are available, you can fly standby on another flight.
You may view your spot on the standby list in My Trips or in the Fly Delta App upon check-in. For flights out of Paris (CDG) and Amsterdam (AMS), Medallion Members will not be able to select an upgrade or change seats within the seat map beginning 48 hours prior to departure.
Standby is usually when you don't have a confirmed reservation for a flight, like if you were on a later flight and were trying to get on an earlier one. if you are really standby, then you need to call Delta to find out what's going on.
Based on the fare rules, you may have to pay a service fee and/or a difference in fare. For travel outside the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the change fee for Delta-marketed flights is typically $200 to $400, but can vary based on location and type of fare.
Standby is the list you're on until you get your seat. Everyone on a BE fare is on the standby list until their seat is assigned. It does not mean you're going to be bumped. It means you're standing by for your seat assignment. Your seat will be assigned when you arrive at the gate.
To fly on a Delta Air Lines buddy pass, the passenger will pay $328.20 roundtrip. With a bit of planning, purchasing an advance ticket for $207 guarantees you passage, and for less than you would have to pay for the buddy pass to fly on standby.
Standby is reserved for folks who are involuntarily bumped from their original flights, passengers who, for one reason or another, want to get on an earlier or later flight on the same-day of their original scheduled flight and airline employees and their families and eligible companions who fly for free or near free.
Delta Airline employees, their families and guests can fly for a reduced rate or free, using a Delta Buddy Pass. However, they must fly standby, meaning they are not guaranteed seats. Travel is subject to the availability of space at departure time. Buddy Passes cannot be used for business, according to Delta Airlines.

Flying standby (sometimes referred to as 'same day flight changes') used to mean buying a cheap ticket for the next flight with empty seats. Today, standby generally means you've already purchased a ticket, but want to get on an earlier flight, or maybe you'd rather sleep in and catch a later one.
The short answer is no. Airlines no longer allow you to wait around at the counter in hopes of snagging a "standby flight" and filling the last seat of a departing flight. And buying a ticket on the day of a flight would do the opposite of save you money -- last-minute tickets are staggeringly expensive.
There are several different reasons. The first is that Delta blocks seats until one hour before flight time to accommodate special requests like passengers with a fused/immobile leg or or passengers with police escort.
Purchase a Southwest Airlines ticket. Business Select and Anytime tickets allow travelers to change the time of the flight with a standby ticket for no additional fee. Wanna Get Away, Senior fares and Ding! fares require travelers to upgrade to an Anytime ticket before obtaining a standby ticket.
No Group or Family Seating
Even if you fly an airline that does permit some basic economy seat selection, sitting together is not guaranteed.Delta Air Lines: Standby fee is $75 for most passengers. Basic Economy fares are not eligible for standby or same-day changes. Frontier Airlines?: Only elite members qualify for standby flights. All other ticketed passengers will have to pay to change to a same-day ticket at a new time.
In Basic Economy you'll experience: Complimentary carry-on bag. Overhead bin space may be limited, so your carry-on bag may be gate checked free of charge. Checked bag fee applies depending on the route.
“Delta Comfort seats worth the extra money!” We always get at least Comfort Seats on Delta, especially for cross-country. It's worth a few extra dollars for extra legroom, the ability to actually recline your seat, free drinks, free entertainment (movies games and TV), and priority boarding.
Customers who purchase a Basic Economy fare enjoy the same flight experience as Main Cabin customers, including Delta's world-class service, a Main Cabin seat, complimentary snacks, meals, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages (depending on flight distance), Wi-Fi for purchase and free access to hours of movies, shows
If you're within 24 hours of purchasing your ticket, you can cancel your flight without a penalty when you book directly with Delta. If you purchased a non-refundable ticket other than a Basic Economy fare, you can still cancel your flight and can receive an eCredit, if applicable. Learn more about canceling a ticket.
No, changes — including same-day confirmed or same-day standby travel changes — aren't allowed for basic economy fares.
EATS and Drinks
Enjoy complimentary snacks on every flight over 250 miles. Plus, your choice of Starbucks® coffee, hot tea, a selection of Coca-Cola® products*, juices or water. *Coca-Cola products and alcoholic beverages may not be served on flights less than 350 miles.Within 24 hours of your departure, you can check in and notify Delta of the number of bags you will check on delta.com or on the Fly Delta app. If you've already checked in, drop your bags at Baggage Drop. You may also check in and pay for bags at the airport.
If you are able to get a standby seat, you'll be charged a fee or the difference between your original ticket and the price of the new seat you're taking in some cases. But if you don't get a standby seat, there's still hope.
To fly standby, make sure to purchase a cheap ticket from the airline you want to fly on so you can clear security when you get to the airport. Once you clear security, go to the gate for the flight you want to take and ask the attendant to put you on a standby list.
