PreticX® is a new prebiotic XOS (xylooligosaccharide) that is non-GMO project verified and has been clinically shown to increase bifidobacteria in the colon and aid in healthy digestion, effective at low inclusion rates, making it a versatile and stable ingredient for use in both supplements and food products.
Xylooligosaccharide (XOS) is a recent prebiotic that can be incorporated into many food products (Aachary and Prapulla, 2011). Our lab previously reported that XOS, at the dose of 2.8 g/day, was well tolerated, and modified the gut bacterial composition in healthy people (Finegold et al., 2014).
Inulin, beta-glucans, and xylooligosaccharides all provide health benefits to consumers that are related to the fermentation of these compounds in the distal gastrointestinal tract, and are also considered functional fibers with many other benefits [6].
Prebiotics Are Not The Same. There are several kinds of prebiotics. One of the most common is FOS, a prebiotic comprising oligomers of D-fructose residues. GOS, or Galacto-oligosaccharides, are another common prebiotic derived from lactose and resemble the prebiotics in mother's milk.
However, there are some differences between two prebiotics: as in FOS intervention demonstrated by OGTT (P < 0.001), and in GOS intervention demonstrated by fasting glucose. On the other hand, the alteration of glucose observed in our study is slightly different from other literature.
Q: What are the ingredients in Peak BioBoost? A: This supplement includes the following ingredients: magnesium citrate, acacia gum, FOS, inulin, and XOS. The four final ingredients in this list are hidden behind a prebiotic blend, making it hard to assess the true effectiveness of this part of the supplement's formula.
Bananas. Bananas are more than a delicious fruit: They're rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber, and they contain small amounts of inulin. Unripe (green) bananas are high in resistant starch, which has prebiotic effects ( 37 ).
When taken by mouth: Inulin is likely safe for most people in the amounts found in foods. It is possibly safe in adults when taken as a supplement, short-term. Doses of 8-18 grams daily have been used safely for 6-12 weeks. The most common side effects include gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, and cramps.
Oligosaccharides are carbohydrates, composed of up to twenty monosaccharides linked by glycosydic bonds, widely used in food and pharmaceutical industries. These compounds can be obtained by extraction from natural sources (milk, vegetables, fruits), and by chemical or biotechnological processes.
Living microorganisms found in yogurt and other cultured foods may help improve your body's bacterial environment inside and out. They're called probiotics, a name that means "for life." More and more people are using probiotic products to treat or improve illnesses or to maintain overall well-being.
Isomaltooligosaccharide (IMO) is a mixture of short-chain carbohydrates which has a digestion-resistant property. The raw material used for manufacturing IMO is starch, which is enzymatically converted into a mixture of isomaltooligosaccharides.
Fructo-oligosaccharides are commonly used by mouth for constipation. Some people use them for weight loss, to prevent traveler's diarrhea, and to treat high cholesterol levels and osteoporosis. But there is limited scientific research to support these other uses. Fructo-oligosaccharides are also used as prebiotics.
Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) is a type of prebiotic, and generally the most commonly found type of prebiotic in supplements in the UK and worldwide. FOS can be found in a number of Optibac supplements.
