You should start from the beginning. Supernatural has 14 going on 15 seasons and you'll be hella lost if you skip any seasons. It's a great show and I finished watching seasons 1–11 in like two weeks because I loved it so much and even to this day and few years later, it is my favorite show.

The end of Supernatural Season 14 introduced Chuck as the villain of the final season, proving he had been toying with Sam and Dean's lives for another bout of literary symmetry. He wanted Dean to kill Jack, Abraham-style, but when Dean and Sam rebelled, he ended the kid himself and started the End.
When Dean finds out about Sam's powers and all the secrets Sam has been keeping from him, Sam responds by saying that he does this because Dean looks and treats him like a freak. Sam eventually becomes addicted to demon blood, a fact that Dean soon discovers.
Supernatural has so many seasons, and they've done so much it's bound to hit some rough patches. Even the Simpsons had bad seasons, quite a few of them. I found seasons 6-7-8 to be the worst, with season 9 starting to improve. Of course you may have different viewing tastes than I do.
If you are looking for a teen drama with romance, a dark vibe, and a thorough plot line, then go with The Vampire Diaries. But, if you want a show with action, comedy, emotion, and a brotherly bond that makes you sob your eyes out, then absolutely go with Supernatural.
