Story site Wattpad has launched a new program which aims to help writers earn money through advertising and says a test run has already seen authors earning $1,000 a month, with some making nearly $2,000.
Wattpad Books, Wattpad Studios, Wattpad Brand Partnerships, and Wattpad Paid Stories all provide a path to monetization for writers. While no one program will be right for everyone, we offer a number of ways people can make money on Wattpad.
Chick lit or chick literature is genre fiction, which "consists of heroine-centered narratives that focus on the trials and tribulations of their individual protagonists".
Wattpad in a nutshellAuthors can upload either the completed or working version of their books for readers to read. Wattpad is entirely free for all of its users which means that authors are actually giving their work away for free with no option to sell on the site.
Stories are purchased using Coins. These can be purchased on the Wattpad app, and will be paid for through your Apple or Google Play account. Learn how to add Coins to your account here.
How are tag rankings determined? We use an algorithm that takes into account factors such as the popularity, trendiness, and user engagement of a story, plus the relevance of the tags used and when the story was last updated by the author.
Follow these steps to add text or username tags:
- Take a photo or video in Instagram Stories, or upload a photo or video there.
- Tap Aa at the top right of your screen.
- Type your word or phrase (emojis work here too).
- If you want to tag someone, type @username and select the person from the suggested profiles.
- Tap Done.
The great thing about Paid Stories Program is that your story does not have to be popular to be a part of it. It does not need to have 230k reads or 110k likes in order to be considered for the program. All the stories will be considered equally and fairly by the experienced and professional staffs.
Simply put, tagging identifies someone else in a post, photo or status update that you share. A tag may also notify that person that you have mentioned them or referred to them in a post or a photo, and provide a link back to their profile. You can tag someone in a photo that you share to identify them in the photo.

Some will tell you 2,500 words is the average, while others will say that 3,000 to 5,000 word chapters are more likely to be the norm. Most agree that under 1,000 words would be rather short and that over 5,000 might be rather too long. As a general guideline, chapters should be between 3,000 to 5,000 words.

Reading stories in wattpad can be good and bad in every sense possible and it would only take a reader some time to know how it would be. Indeed, that is a good thing but despite being generous when it comes to sharing their ideas, rude readers are just around the corner.
The read count isn't exactly accurate, considering that they do count reads from yourself, and it is split among the chapters. Also, when you're editing your story, and you click the 'view as reader' button, it will count that as a read too.
The best time to post is Friday or Saturday morning for weekend readers (though keep in mind with a worldwide readership, timing fluctuates wildly). It's much easier to do this if you have the story written beforehand, or you have enough time between posts to write another chapter.
Being connected to your readers is one of the most satisfying and rewarding parts of Wattpad. With Paid Stories, your audience can also reward you with monetary support. Paid Stories allows readers to support selected authors by purchasing access to entire stories or paying to unlock portions as they go.
You may not be active on the clubs, you may not have great writing, a good cover and summary, you may not be in book clubs, or anything. That is most likely why you aren't getting feedback and reads. Now, feedback is another problem because Wattpad has loads of silent readers.
While there are no bright-line rules, such genres as parody and criticism are enumerated by statute and case law as presumptively fair uses. There has been no case law that squarely addresses fanfiction in relation to fair use.
Take a look at some of their stories and review them. If you like what you read, add them to your 'favourite authors' list. Ask some of your new friends if they'd like to collaborate on a story. This can be done by each of you sending chapters to one another to read and edit, and then one of you uploading it.

Once or twice a week is good enough. It's better if u mention the day(s) when u publish so that the readers know when to expect an update (like every wednesday and sunday). It's wise to be ahead by a few chapters so that when u r too lazy or not getting enough ideas, u have a chapter already written.
While authors can get paid to publish, not all fan fiction is welcome. Fan fiction writers can only get 35% of royalties for longer works (over 10,000 words) and 20% for short stories. Amazon's price for short stories usually go for $0.99, novellas for $1.99, and novels for $3.99.
Today's short stories make money and hold their value. Per word, a story can make more money than a novel. Not only does it take less time to write, a Kindle Single often sells for the same price as a novel-length e-book, and it can be repurposed many times. Short stories are great for practice, too.
