One character that is also missing is Reg (Barton Fitzpatrick). His character was seemingly killed off of the show at the end of season 2 and many speculated that he quit after refusing to engage with a transgender love interest. Fitzpatrick is now saying those rumors are not true.
When the third season of “The Chi” returns on Showtime, it will be without one of the drama's key cast members: Jason Mitchell. That's because last year, Mitchell was fired from the show due to allegations about his off-camera behavior. His character, Brandon, was the show's heart and soul for its first two seasons.
While her mom, Nina, and new stepmother are away on their honeymoon, Kiesha is left in charge of her younger brother, Kevin, which means one thing: She's free to come and go as she pleases.
As of now, viewers do not know exactly how Brandon died, but it could be assumed that he was killed on the streets of Chicago like his brother Coogie (Jahking Guillory).
Why did they kill Ronnie off on 'The Chi'? In a post-episode debrief with TV Guide, The Chi showrunner Justin Hillian revealed the writers' motivations for killing Ronnie off. “We did want to honor karma,” he said. He shot Coogie because he was trying to avenge Jason's death for Tracy.”
Like many of us, Yolonda Ross was shocked when she first learned that Ronnie was being killed off, as it meant she'd be saying goodbye to the character and co-star Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine. Ronnie's death happens quickly, with him being shot from behind, while longtime friend Tracy mourns him.

Mitchell's chef character Brandon will be killed off in the upcoming Season 3 of the Showtime drama, our sister site Variety reports. Despite the cast shuffle, The Chi has still been renewed for a third season at Showtime. No premiere date has been set.

There will not be any room for Jason Mitchell to return for “The Chi” in Season 3 of the Showtime drama. Gary Levine, Showtime's co-president of entertainment, said Friday that Mitchell's character on the series will be killed off in the new season.
