You need to have a suitable DAB aerial to receive DAB services. Portable DAB radios will usually have a telescopic one, but if you are retro-fitting a DAB radio into a car, you may need to add a DAB aerial. External aerials are also available for DAB and will significantly improve reception.
Throughout the world, the FM broadcast band falls within the VHF part of the radio spectrum. Usually 87.5 to 108.0 MHz is used, or some portion thereof, with few exceptions: In the former Soviet republics, and some former Eastern Bloc countries, the older 65.8–74 MHz band is also used.
Can I receive AM and FM on digital radio? DAB+ digital radios come in a range of different models. Most DAB+ digital radios can also receive analogue FM, and some AM. The BBC has cancelled plans to switch off FM radio broadcasts and force millions of listeners to tune into digital transmissions. The corporation is set to announce FM will remain as part of a 'hybrid' future that will operate alongside DAB and the internet.
Instead of a traditional radio signal, the DAB feed is made from a string of ones and zeroes. Naturally, this means that plenty more stations can be broadcast at once, without stepping on each others' toes. In theory, there could be up to 60 digital radio stations broadcasting from a single transmission tower.
The station started broadcasting as a pirate radio station called For the People or FTP, which secured a licence to broadcast to the city of Bristol in 1990 on 97.2 MHz FM.

Kisstory is a digital-only radio station that plays hip hop, R 'n' B and dance music. Kisstory broadcasts on the D1 national DAB multiplex and Freeview, but not on FM radio. Kisstory isn't available on FM, so you won't be able to find it on an AM/FM radio.

Brand manager Diana Laird explained that the KISS station in Santa Barbara, California (KIST-FM, now defunct), for example, plays far more hip hop and dance music than the mainstream pop music that is heard in Boise, Idaho (KSAS-FM).
