What is Moscato Wine? Moscato (pronounced mo-ska-toh) is a sweet Italian wine known for its fruity notes. Made from the Muscat grape, this white wine is typically thought of as a dessert wine with a hint of fizz.
Moscato d'Asti is a DOCG sparkling white wine made from the Moscato bianco grape and produced mainly in the province of Asti, northwest Italy, and in smaller nearby regions in the provinces of Alessandria and Cuneo. The wine is sweet and low in alcohol, and is considered a dessert wine.
The majority of my wines fall into the 12-14% range, though my dessert wines are 15% (some competitions require this level to be considered a dessert wine); and these bulk age 9 months to a year before getting bottled. Strawberry wine is so good!
The word “Moscato” may conjure images of sweet, pink bubbly wine, but it's technically just the Italian word for the Muscat family of grapes. Multiple varieties grow throughout Italy and the world, and are made into still, sparkling, sweet and fortified wines.
Not only are moscato wines tasty it is also healthy. Research has shown that moscato contains high concentrations of flavonoids, which means a lot of antioxidants. Moscato wine also has as many flavonoids as red wine, so one can argue that moscato wine is as healthy as red wine.
Chill any still white or pink-hued Moscato to a similar temperature as light-bodied whites such as Riesling and Pinot Grigio. This is a safe bet for most fruity, light-bodied red wines. Moscato Rosa and other red-grape Moscatos should be slightly chilled to bring out their complexity.
Like Moscato, Pinot Grigio is unoaked and stored in stainless steel vats. This produces a bright and crisp wine, free of the flavors you may find in a contrastingly full-bodied, oaky Chardonnay. For those ready to dip their tongues into drier styles of wine, Pinot Grigio is the perfect bridge.

Sparkling moscato is made from Muscat Blanc grapes. This style is maily found in the province of Asti, Italy, so naturally it's called Moscato d'Asti. This sweet frizzante bubbly wine has high aromatics and light alcohol level (close to 5-6% ABV). A still moscato is made from Muscat Blanc or Moscatel grapes.

But despite moscato's popularity, the strange thing about hip-hop's fascination with the beverage is that the wine is not at all high-end: It's a relatively cheap white wine made from the muscat grape. Some of the very best bottles can cost less than $50. And moscato is really sweet and has low alcohol content.
