Macrame Rope is usually 3-strand rope (sometimes called 3-ply) where the strands are twisted around each other. Stiffening rope can help it keep a specific shape for your project. One of the simplest ways to stiffen craft material is to use corn starch. Mixing water and corn starch creates a thick mixture that soaks into cloth and other materials such as rope. Once the starch dries, it makes the material stiff.
You can use a single rainbow yarn like I did, mix up individual colors over the 8 pieces, or you could also use macrame rope. Next, gather all the yarn pieces together and fold in half. 3. Tie a tight knot with them on the fold, this will be your loop for hanging your planter.

Macrame Basic Knots
- Square Knot. This knot consists of two Flat knots, tied in different directions.
- Hitches. The Hitches (or Clove knot, Clove Hitch knot) can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal.
- Vertical Hitch.

Step 1 is to cut 1 5ft long cord and 5 30in long cords like pictured above. Side note—you are going to need more string so keep the cord and your scissors near by. Also just a heads up, the beginning of this process is the hardest part. Once you get the center started, its all the same from there.
