DeWalt is a global manufacturer of power tools, hand tools, and accessories and are currently manufacturing their tools in the following countries: United States, Mexico, Brazil, China, Italy, United Kingdom, and the Czech Republic.
DeWalt 20v MAX XR batteries are just like standard 20-volt batteries, but they last longer relative to their size. The XR stands for Extended Runtime, so you get extra life out of them before running out of juice.
As long as the battery that you are substituting is the same voltage, you can use a higher capacity (higher Ah) battery than the original one. The reverse is also true. Using a battery with a higher Ah will improve the device's running time on a single charge.
DOES IT HURT DEWALT BATTERIES TO LEAVE THEM IN THE CHARGER? No. The DEWALT chargers have a maintenance mode which allows batteries to remain in the charger, maintaining a fully charged pack until the user is ready to work. Storing DEWALT Lithium Ion batteries outside of the charger will not result in loss of charge.
XR on the tool refers to the motors being brushless which are more efficient and that equals better battery life. The XR line of batteries according to DeWalt last 33% longer than the 20v "max" line of batteries of the same size.
Standard DeWalt 20 volt batteries are compatible with all 20-volt tools, as well as all 20-volt chargers. This means that once you join the DeWalt platform, you have access to over 100 products that all use the same battery technology. DeWalt 20v MAX batteries can't be used in FlexVolt 60v and 120v MAX tools, however.
3X THE POWER: When compared to the DC9096 18V
Battery. 4X RUNTIME**: 6.0Ah capacity when used in 20V MAX* tools. DUAL-VOLTAGE FOR FLEXIBILITY: Compatible with all 20V MAX*, 60V MAX* and 120V MAX* tools.

I was browsing around on Ebay when I found this crazy contraption that allows you to use Dewalt Makita or Milwaukee 18V Batteries on Ryobi 18V Tools. I say incompatible battery because Ryobi tools can only accept Ryobi batteries, so if it's not a Ryobi battery, then its not compatible with the Ryobi tool.
Are Black & Decker batteries interchangeable with Dewalt and the same with Dewalt batteries with Black & Decker? What are some simple steps I can take to protect my privacy online? No. They use very, very, similar battery connections that have been designed specifically to be incompatible.
The different sizing of the cordless battery slot itself causes each brand to have its own battery pack size even though they tend to have the same voltage. The Porter-Cable and Dewalt for example which both have 20 volts lithium-ion cells are not interchangeable without some modifications.
Then there is this lighting tool system that can use Dewalt, Makita and soon Milwaukee batteries. Dewalt has also has a 18v battery adapter to use with the 20v batteries. (Posted on Toolguyd first).
Notes: 20V Battery is compatible with other 20V Hyper Tough tools, including cordless drill that was previously clearanced out for $5 (or $9 in a set with other hand tools).
