Which is sweeter – Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio? Pinot Grigio usually tastes less sweet than Chardonnay due to its high acidity level. Which is drier – Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio? Chardonnay is a drier wine with a full-bodied, buttery taste.
Negative Health Effects of Drinking Too Much Alcohol
Liver cirrhosis: When more then 30 grams of alcohol (about 2–3 glasses of wine) are consumed each day, the risk of developing liver disease increases. End-stage liver disease, called cirrhosis, is life threatening ( 43 ).Besides giving your body empty calories, alcohol heightens your risk for numerous health issues, including cancer. It can also affect the brain, making depression more severe and increasing stress hormone levels. Although drinking a bottle of wine a day isn't healthy, it may seem normal.
Here are five of the most popular wines in the US to try if you're just getting started.

The interesting thing about calories in wine is that we digest them differently than food. Our body stops what it's doing and prioritizes alcohol calories first before addressing other calories (fat, carbs, sugar, etc.) Wine doesn't make you fat, but eating pizza when you're drunk does.
They held that both the Bible and Christian tradition taught that alcohol is a gift from God that makes life more joyous, but that over-indulgence leading to drunkenness is sinful or at least a vice.
First, alcohol can cause weight gain simply because it has calories. If you have too much alcohol, it can also turn into fat in your liver, which then turns into fat in your blood and is likely to be stored as fat in your body.
When reading a tech sheet:
- Below 1% sweetness, wines are considered dry.
- Above 3% sweetness, wines taste “off-dry,” or semi-sweet.
- Wines above 5% sweetness are noticeably sweet!
- Dessert wines start at around 7–9% sweetness.
- By the way, 1% sweetness is equal to 10 g/L residual sugar (RS).
Is Pinot Grigio dry or sweet?
You could find examples of Sauvignon Blanc sweeter than a Chardonnay, and you could find examples of the reverse, too. But overall, I wouldn't describe Sauvignon Blanc as “sweeter” than Chardonnay. Technically, “sweet” is the opposite of “dry,” but some dry wines can give the impression of sweetness.
If you like pinot grigio, you'll like albariño.
Most pinot grigio has been over-cropped so that all those characteristics are washed away and what's left is a liquid a wee tastier than Evian. Other alternatives: Greek assyrtiko; Basque txakoli; Italian arneis, falanghina or fiano di Avellino.Chardonnay Taste
Chardonnay is a dry, full-bodied white wine with primary fruit flavors of apple, yellow melon and starfruit. Since it's one of the few white wines that is commonly aged in oak, you'll often find Chardonnay will taste of cream, vanilla or butter.Pinot gris, pinot grigio or Grauburgunder is a white wine grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera. Thought to be a mutant clone of the pinot noir variety, it normally has a grayish-blue fruit, accounting for its name but the grapes can have a brownish pink to black and even white appearance.
White Zinfandel. White Zinfandel is a dry to sweet, pink-colored white wine which was invented by Sutter Home Family Vineyards winemaker Bob Trinchero in 1948.
Hold all stemmed wine glasses (red, white, etc) towards the base of the stem between your thumb, forefinger and middle finger. You'll find that your other fingers will just rest on the base naturally. Don't worry, it's totally socially acceptable to swirl your wine.
