Re: How worth while is a visit to Xcaret? In my opinion, one day. Yes, there is much to see and do but you'll tire after a day. Or maybe an afternoon and staying for the evening/night show.
Re: Xcaret: Water shoes for river/caves recommended? You can bring water shoes (I did) but it's better to use the fins that they provide at the park, easier to swim with the fins. You need something though, water shoes or fins, because there are sharp rocks down there. You can bring bottled water, drinks, food, etc.
The Unlimited Xcaret Xperience package costs 59 usd per person per night (3 nights minimum) You are allowed to get the package upon your arrival at the Front Office.
- Xcaret has a scenic tower, but Xplor has scenic zipline towers. - Xcaret has a river swim that is underground and open. Xplor has a fully underground one with a grand finale and free hot drinks and cookies at the end. - At Xcaret the food is an extra cost, it's included at Xplor but the entrance fee is more at Xplor.

-Tipping - some resorts frown upon it. Xcaret doesn't seem to be one of those. Although people are not standing with their hand out you can tell they will go the extra mile and are very appreciative if you show some green gratitude. any foreign money is gladly accepted.
In Xcaret we are not allowed to bring food but you may bring a liter of water per person.

Mike, I think you will find that most of the caves and underground rivers at Xcaret are man made. They are not natural. So if all you want to see are natural underground rivers and cenotes then there are plenty to see in the area that are much more attractive than those at Xcaret.

The proper pronunciation of Xcaret sounds something like SHCA-ret, but ESH-cah-ret is most commonly heard.
When did Xcaret Park open?
The etymology of the site's name comes from Yukatek Maya, combining the roots xel ("spring") and ha' ("water"). The lagoon and inlet at Xelha has been turned into a commercial water theme park known as Xel-Ha Park.
Tulum is a must visit. The access fee is $35-40 pesos (video cameras extra $30 pesos) and the visit timetable is 8 am to 5 pm, everyday. It is important to mention that it is necessary to park the your car at the shopping center's parking lot (an extra $30 pesos fee) when arriving through the main ruins entrance.
Hotel Xcaret Mexico (Adults Only) - Playa del Carmen.
There is a really decent beach - if you go to Hotel Xcaret reviews on Tripadvisor they have some pretty good pictures. The beach is not endless like Playcar, Maroma or Cancun but it is a lot better than the Occidental next door.
This type of vacation travel is extremely safe and safer then most touristic destinations in the world. We don't discourage people from vacationing and having a good time in Playa Del Carmen, but we do make people aware of how crime has changed from previous years.
