As a member of WAGGGS, the Girl Scouts of the USA use the three-fingered sign at shoulder height. The three fingers represent the person's own spiritual beliefs, other people and the Girl Scout Law. This differs from the 1913 version where the first finger represented God and Country.

Girl Scouts can be a wonderful program. Whatever program you choose for your daughter, whether it's Girl Scouts or one of the alternatives, get involved yourself. You don't have to be a troop leader if you don't have the time or desire. But you can volunteer to help out with meetings, events and activities.

The basic requirements for the rank ate fairly straight forward. 1, Be active in your troop, team, crew, or ship for a period of at least six months after you have achieved the rank of Life Scout.
However, if you're giving cash or gift cards, the customary amount is between $10 and $25. Personally, I give $20 to new Eagle Scouts at their Court of Honor.

In terms of higher education and career, receiving the Gold Award can help you stand out from the crowd in the college admission process! Through the process of earning the Gold Award, you learn highly valuable skills that you will use for the rest of your life.
To answer the original question about “how much of an impact” it has on college applications, the world may never know. Considering only a small percentage of Girl Scouts complete the Gold Award, and only a small percentage of college applicants are Girl Scouts, I'd say it will definitely raise some interest.
In 2014, 6.01 percent of eligible Scouts earned the Eagle Scout award. That number is a tick down from 2013's record-high 6.02 percent. To be clear, that number was calculated this way: The total membership number for Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, and Venturers (males under 18 years old) in 2014 was 861,898.
Gold Award (Girl Scouts of the USA) The Gold Award is the highest achievement within the Girl Scouts of the USA, earned by Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts. Only 5.4% of eligible Girl Scouts successfully earn the Gold Award.

Any age is a good age to become a Girl Scout! We offer programs for girls from kindergarten to high school, and girls can participate in Girl Scouts from ages 5 to 18. (Girls who are 5 must be eligible for kindergarten; girls who are 18 must be enrolled in high school.)
You earn the BSA's Eagle Scout award as a youth (unless you earned it before 1965), but the title stays with you throughout your life. Earning the BSA's top honor makes you a marked man for the rest of your life. The title doesn't go away when you turn 18.
Juliette Girl Scouting. Juliette Girl Scouts are registered girl members, in grades K-12, who are not affiliated with a troop. They participate in a way that fits their schedule, attending events and participating in activities that meet their needs and interests.
Venturing (please don't call it Venture Scouts) is for young men and women ages 14 to 20. Venturers can in fact currently earn the rank of Eagle, but only if they completed First Class as Boy Scouts. It is possible to complete the Star, Life, and Eagle ranks as a Venturer.
Girl Scouts prepares girls to empower themselves and promotes compassion, courage, confidence, character, leadership, entrepreneurship, and active citizenship through activities involving camping, community service, learning first aid, and earning badges by acquiring practical skills.
Scholarship: The foundation will award scholarships to deserving young women who have earned the Girl Scout Gold or Silver Award and who plan to or are currently pursuing a college major or minor in foreign language. This scholarship is renewable.
