Summer is the time to kick back and try something different – and National Citizen Service (NCS) is the perfect way to do it. In 3-4 weeks achieve more than you ever imagined – all for only £50.
Does NCS count towards UCAS points? Not at the moment, but keep in mind UCAS look for more than just points. We've seen universities look very favourably on people who have graduated from NCS because it shows you have a wider range of skills and experience.
Here are five ways to help a CV stand out from the crowd.

The National Citizen Service (NCS) is a voluntary personal and social development programme for 16–17 year olds in England and Northern Ireland, funded largely by money from the UK Government.
Your personal statement should be no longer than one side of A4 and include information about the reasons why you have decided to apply to the NCS (this is where the research comes in!), what subjects you wish to study and why, your outside interests and what your future ambitions are (this does not have to be career

You can miss up to 4.5 days through unauthorised absence, and must make up the hours to be able to graduate. You cannot miss 4.5 days in only one phase of the programme. Only exceptional circumstances will be authorised on a case-by-case basis.
Smoking. The use of bongs, hookahs, or similar or associated items, for the purpose of smoking flavoured tobacco or other substances, is strictly prohibited. Any participant contravening this rule may be excluded from the remainder of the NCS programme.
Depending on the opportunities you choose, and where your continued NCS journey takes you, you will be eligible for further recognition which is great for your CV. bringing a few extra layers. However, you will be given a FREE three-season sleeping bag and sleeping mat.
Sturdy shoes, warm jumper, spare clothes
Spare trousers, socks and T-shirt are a good idea in case you get wet, and warm clothing to sleep in is super important under canvas.The NCS Graduate programme is a way of continuing your NCS journey and gaining even more valuable skills whilst having fun on the way with new found friends! Not only do you receive certificates, get to socialise with your friends and gain volunteer experience but you can also receive employment points.
NCS is a government-funded programme that brings together 15-17 year olds from a diverse range of backgrounds to make a difference in their community.
If a young person withdraws from NCS, powered by Personal Best Education within 14 days of our receipt of their payment, they will be eligible for a full refund from NCS Trust. Refunds will be paid direct from NCS Trust. If you have not received your refund 14 days, please contact us.
NCS Week 2 – Packing List
- Toiletries.

- Clothes – just bring your casual, every day clothes that you normally wear but plan according to the weather because you will spend a good portion of your day walking around.
- Sensible shoes.
NCS takes place during the Summer and there are a choice of starts dates know as 'waves'. Where does the programme take place? If you need to change your wave date for some reason please ring the NCS Team on 0300 003 2334 and we will happily change your wave as long as we still have availability.

NCS Team Challenge: Teams return home and use their skills to experience serving the local community. All young people who complete NCS with The Challenge graduate from our programme and are signposted into year-round volunteering, membership and social engagement opportunities through The Challenge Society.

Since NCS is based on how we perceive colour visually, the system allows you to describe colour on all imaginable surface.

NCS 'will not proactively recruit' 18- to 25-year-olds. Young people aged between 18 and 25 will not be proactively recruited for the government's National Citizen Service (NCS) initiative, youth minister Rob Wilson has pledged.
