Different parts of the ear are bound to hurt more than others because the flesh varies - the ear lobe is generally considered the least painful piercing whereas cartilage piercings, like the helix, tragus, conch and so on – will usually be more painful because it's tougher.
My forward helix rejected. I beat it at its own game and took it out so I would't be left with bad scaring. If you can feel the barbell in your skin it is definitely rejecting, it should not be that shallow that you can feel it, mine was like that and on the back you could see the barbell through my skin.
Whether it's a hoop or stud, you can always get whichever you like for a cartilage piercing. Your piercer will probably recommend labret studs—longer studs will accommodate for how much the piercing will swell. Hoops may be too small to give your piercing breathing space.
You may find smiling or sleeping on that side to be painful. This is normal for the first few days. Your cartilage is a very sensitive area and will cause more discomfort than an earlobe piercing.
One cartilage piercing that allows for a full-on cartilage bash is the helix piercing. This section of the ear can be pierced two, three, or more times, and when combined with the forward helix, you can have an entire queue of jewelry lining your ear.
While you might get over a lobe piercing in around a month, a helix piercing can take anywhere between 3 to 6 months to heal. Unfortunately, like the pain factor, it's hard to give an exact healing time as everyone is different. Expect the piercing area to feel sore, turn red and even swell or bleed (initially).
Forward Helix Piercing CostsThe price for an individual forward helix piercing can range anywhere from $30-90, not counting additional charges for jewelry and of course, a tip; and of course, a project of multiple piercings will invariably cost more.
Can I put a 14g belly button piercing into a 16g hole? If your piercing is healed and you've had it for a while you might be able to. There's not a huge difference between the two, but it might be enough to keep it from going in.
I think you're asking how to get a 16 gauge earing into an 18 gauge hole. (The smaller the number the bigger the earing.) With only going up 1 size you should be able to slide it in. It'll be a little uncomfortable for an hour or 2 until your ear gets used to it but it won't be painful for long.
Range of Gauges for Body Jewelry18 gauge = 0.04 inches (larger than 1/32-inch), 1.0 millimeters (ear, nose piercings) 14 gauge = 1/16-inch, 1.6 millimeters (tongue, navel, labret, nipple, septum piercings) 8 gauge = 1/8-inch, 3.2 millimeters. 2 gauge = 1/4-inch, 6.5 millimeters.
You can stretch your tragus, conch, flat, as well as any helix piercing. BUT, when stretching cartilage you need to be aware that once it heals, the stretch is permanent! It will not shrink back down to its original size.
Helix hoop earrings are among the most popular helix jewelry styles. Seamless hoops are great for a sleek, simple look. Many who have multiple ear piercings opt for this style because they complement the surrounding jewelry without overwhelming the ear.
Most people who get a helix piercing will be just fine. Their piercing will heal well without any complications. However, once in a while, something goes wrong and an infection sets in. Infections are sometimes limited only to the skin right around the piercing site.
Can You Get Both Helix Piercings Together? First thing's first: Yes, you can get a double-helix piercing done at the same time. In fact, it's recommended considering the healing time of cartilage piercings (more on that later!)
Sleeping on your side should help. Let the site heal… maybe about (3–4months) to make sure they calm down. My cartilage piercing was closing up (the outer skin had closed) and I impulsively stuck an earring through it.
When taking a shower with a new cartilage piercing, you will do it as you always have done. Only this time you will remove any potential pain hazards around your piercing first before jumping into the shower. These hazards are such like your hair and any chemical products like a harsh anti-bacterial soap.
If possible, don't pierce your forward helix yourself or by yourself. Have a friend help you with the piercing. The forward helix, in particular, is difficult to get to, especially if you are looking in the mirror. This whole process is much easier to do when you have someone there to help you.
How Does A Triple Forward Helix Hurt? Triple forward helix piercing pain could be extreme. The pain is even worse when your piercer uses a thicker bar since it stings more as it is pushed through your ear. On a pain scale of 1-10, the pain level is 6.
When getting your helix pierced, the piercing jewelry should be 14k gold or implant-grade titanium. These are the highest quality metals for earrings. Genuine gold earrings, in particular, are easier to clean thoroughly and are less likely to cause infection.
How Bad do Helix Piercings Hurt? Helix piercings are not very painful as there are almost no nerve endings in the outer ear cartilage. The average pain rating for a helix piercing is 4/10.
Please do not change out your initial piercing so soon. Cartilage piercings, like a Helix, heal from the outside to the inside, so even if it, after only 4 weeks, looks perfectly fine, it isn't fully healed. It will take alot of time. To prevent any inflammation, i would wait at least 2 months.
Cartilage piercings take three to six months to heal, so you should be able to change your helix jewellery out!
It used to be advised by some piercers to rotate or twist earrings to help the piercing heal correctly. This is no longer advised. And moving the jewelry actually is more likely to damage your cartilage piercing and prevent it from healing well.
Asymmetrical all the way – especially if you tend to sleep on your sides, get one on either your left/right and once it completely heals, then if you want a second, get it on the other side so you can switch which sides you sleep on. My left ear has double lobe, conch, daith, and two upper helix.

As with both acupuncture and auriculotherapy, a piercing can be placed in a specific spot to stimulate the reflex points in that area. Doing this can improve the flow of energy within the body, which can help alleviate a certain pain and regulate the body's functions and internal organs.
