On July 4th, Macy's Fireworks may be viewed from any area with an unobstructed view of the sky above the lower East River at or below the Brooklyn Bridge with four barges positioned between the Manhattan Heliport and Pier 17 at the Seaport District.
The 43rd Annual Macy's 4th of July Fireworks will launch from the Brooklyn Bridge and four barges along the lower East River, Macy's said in a release Thursday. The fireworks display will kick off around 9:20 p.m. on July 4. Last year, the fireworks launched from barges off of Midtown Manhattan.

Macy's suggests viewing this year's spectacle from the following areas in lower Manhattan: Broad Street and Water Street, Pearl Street and Dover Street, Robert F. Wagner Sr. Place and St. James Place, Pearl Street and St.Luke Bryan, Ciara, Khalid, Derek Hough, Maren Morris and Brad Paisley are all set to perform at the 43rd annual Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular, live from the Brooklyn Bridge on Thursday (July 4).

Macy's spends a lot on its 4th of July Fireworks display, as much as $10 million according to some estimates. That gets Macy's in front of about 3 million spectators and 12 million television viewers.

There will be something new at this year's Macy's 4th of July fireworks show in New York City. The fireworks still take place over the East River, but unlike the last five years, when the display was centered on midtown, the fireworks will be launching from barges positioned near the Brooklyn Bridge.
Traditionally, gunpowder used in fireworks was made of 75 percent potassium nitrate (also called saltpeter) mixed with 15 percent charcoal and 10 percent sulfur; modern fireworks sometimes use other mixtures (such as sulfurless powder with extra potassium nitrate) or other chemicals instead.
This year you'll be able to watch a 1600-foot-long waterfall of fireworks burst from the span between the large towers of the Brooklyn Bridge. And that's just one of 70,000 pyrotechnic effects that will be launching from the bridge and four barges along the East River.
