Once aboard he encountered the Hood; after a brief confrontation the Hood made his getaway aboard an escape pod, leaving Jeff trapped aboard. Jeff bravely piloted the spacecraft towards deep space, but the engines hit critical and exploded - taking the ship with it. Jeff apparently perished with the ship.

Profiles of some, but not all, of the Thunderbirds characters were published in 'TV Century 21' comic in 1966. There Scott's age was given as 30, John was 25 and Alan was 19. Much later on, in 1969, some more profiles listed Scott as 31, Virgil as 28, John as 26, Gordon as 23 and Alan as 20.

The construction of the puppets was revolutionised for the Thunderbirds team by the development of bondaglass - a fibreglass cloth and polyester resin - similar to that used to make custom car bodies. Heads were first made in plasticine, then moulded in glass fibre. Moving lips and eyes were added.
