Macs will slow down when performing complex tasks, or a number of tasks at any one time. This is perfectly normal, as the Mac divvies up tasks through its processors. How to Identify a Refurbished MacBook Pro by the Serial Number

What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac
- Create a backup. Make sure that you have a current backup of your important files.
- Sign out of iTunes in macOS Mojave or earlier.
- Sign out of iCloud.
- Sign out of iMessage.
- Reset NVRAM.
- Optional: Unpair Bluetooth devices that you're keeping.
- Erase your hard drive and reinstall macOS.
The MacBook Pro font on the side of the box definitely looks off as well. There's no way it's totally counterfeit - stuff like Touch ID and the Touch Bar are basically impossible to counterfeit. If those are functional, they're legit.
How to find how old your Mac is
- Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your Mac.
- This will bring up a drop-down menu. Pick the top option: About This Mac.
- The resulting window should show you the information you need, e.g. iMac (27-inch, Late 2013).
If you can't turn on your MacBook, you can find the model number on the bottom (e.g. A1707) It will be in small print in the of the case near the hinge. You can then do a quick google search for “Mac A1707 specs” to find out which Mac model you have.
Just click the Apple menu icon at the top of the screen and select “About This Mac”. You'll see the serial number displayed along with your Mac's model number, hardware specifications, and the version of macOS you have installed.
Find the serial number of your Apple product

- In the Finder or iTunes, if your product syncs with your computer.

- Click Windows Start or press the Windows key.
- In the search box, type cmd.
- Press the Enter key. A command window displays.
- Type ipconfig /all.
- Press Enter. A physical address displays for each adapter. The physical address is your device's MAC address.
