To save money on shipping and processing, rather than return the full copies of unsold dated magazines, retailers strip off the covers and return only those. 650 stores will merge magazines with movies, music and electronics. In each “Project Impact” store, the books and magazines aisle will be moved from the front-end of the store to the Entertainment department in the back where music, movies, electronics and games are sold.

Most in the magazine business understand “single issue” to mean you buy one issue, without having a subscription (which Amazon does have a category for). A magazine of which only one issue was printed is considered a special issue as opposed to a single issue.
