Crystal Palace. Crystal Palace, giant glass-and-iron exhibition hall in Hyde Park, London, that housed the Great Exhibition of 1851. The structure was taken down and rebuilt (1852–54) at Sydenham Hill (now in the borough of Bromley), at which site it survived until 1936.
When fire struck the Crystal Palace on 30 November 1936, years of wear and tear, and lack of finance to repair it, had left it in poor condition. The cause of the fire is still unknown and there was never an official inquiry.
The Crystal Palace was a huge glass and iron structure originally built in 1851 for the Great Exhibition held in London's Hyde Park. Prince Albert, head of the Society of Arts, had the idea of an exhibition to impress the world with Britain's industrial achievements.
It was reported by the Daily Mirror's website in January 2006 that Jordan had bought girlfriend Meg Mathews (the former wife of Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher) a Porsche worth £100,000 for Christmas, along with a personalised number plate, and that the couple had been together since July 2005.
Crystal Palace's shops, cafés and restaurants are in “The Triangle” of hilltop streets formed by Westow Hill, Westow Street and Church Road. Crystal Palace is a good place to look for antiques, especially mid-century, and vintage clothing.
What is Crystal Palace nickname?
Crystal Palace fans consider their main rival to be Brighton, with Millwall second and Charlton third.
It's actually a Phoenix (mythical bird which rises from the ashes of a fire). The original Crystal Palace FC was formed by the workers on the original Crystal Palace which burnt down - hence the Phoenix. Over the years the bird on the crest and the club nickname became an Eagle.
The Crystal Palace is a character meal restaurant in Main Street USA at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.
Josh Harris and David Blitzer, the American financiers who are in co-control of Palace with chairman Steve Parish, have wanted to sell up for some time. It is understood the consortium aims to buy the whole club, including Parish's 18 per cent holding and the stakes of minor shareholders, at a cost of about £185m.
Steve Parish began his career working in computer graphics. He went on to buy a stake in a company called Adplates Ltd, assuming control of the business renamed it Tag Worldwide, transforming it from a London-based business to a global production powerhouse. He sold the business to Deutsche Post DHL Group in 2011.
