What is General Information Services GIS? General Information Services provides virtually every type of screening and background check by using the applicant's name, birth date and social security number including: Sex offender registry. County, state, national, and federal criminal checks.

Criminal Background Checks
The United States Postal Service requires prospective employees to undergo two criminal conviction record checks. If they will drive at work, employees must also have a safe driving record. At least one conviction check will follow the driving record assessment.Depending on nature and scope of the background check your potential employer has requested, an average employment background check will typically take between two and four business days to complete.
Can I Get a Copy of My Background Report? Contact your current or potential employer and make the request directly to them. Under current legislation HireRight is not able to provide this information to you directly.

Although your conviction may be dismissed, restrictions resulting from the conviction cannot. An expungement does not: Remove the conviction from your criminal history. California and FBI criminal history records will still show the conviction and the subsequent dismissal.

If there is a mistake in your background check, then your first step is to lodge a dispute with the background screening company. If there are errors in your credit reports or criminal history records, then you will need to go ahead and raise your dispute with the organization that maintains those records.

How Do You Know If You Passed a Background Check?
- Notifying the candidate, in writing, of the decision.
- Providing the candidate with information about the company that prepared the background check report—including company name, address, and phone number.
- Including a disclaimer that the background check company did not make the adverse decision.

When hiring managers go to check your resume, they can call your past employers and find out your job title and description, dates they employed you, and in some states, how much you made. Most companies will verify the dates you worked and your job description, but not your conduct and the quality of your work.
