A Life Peerage cannot be disclaimed. So once you accept a Life Peerage you can never enter the Commons. However, after the expulsion of most of the hereditary peers from the House of Lords, a Hereditary Peer who does not have a seat in the Lords can stand for a seat in the Commons.
The Governor-General may dismiss an incumbent Prime Minister and Cabinet, an individual Minister, or any other official who holds office "during the Queen's pleasure" or "during the Governor-General's pleasure". Members of parliament usually earn between $160,000 and $180,000 a year. Ministers can earn between $250,000 and $300,000. The Prime Minister's salary is set at $470,000.

Under MMP, New Zealand voters have two votes. The first vote is the electorate vote. It determines the local representative for that electorate (geographic electoral district). From Henry Sewell in 1856 to Jacinda Ardern in 2017, New Zealand has had 40 premiers and prime ministers. In the 19th century these political Cabinet-makers were usually known as 'premiers'. But since 1906, beginning with William Hall-Jones, all our leaders have been sworn in as 'prime minister'.
She was succeeded as Prime Minister by John Key of the National Party, and as Leader of the Labour Party by Phil Goff. Clark resigned from Parliament in April 2009 to become the first female head of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Key was appointed a Knight Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, in recognition of "services to the State", in the 2017 Queen's Birthday Honours. On 7 August 2017, Key was awarded an honorary doctorate by his alma mater, the University of Canterbury, to become a doctor of commerce.
